Pants! I hadn't thought of that..... Mine's got Dextrose and salt in it (though no palm oil). It says each table spoon has the equivillent of Trace salt in it, which I guess is still too much if there's supposed to be none in it?

I have an old frying pan which is no longer suitable for use in the kitchen (everything sticks to it). I used it the other day to melt a block of lard then stirred in a load of breadcrumbs, some broken soft poppadoms, raisins, oatmeal and other bits and bobs (including the fat from some burgers grilled on the george). The whole pan was left too cool overnight then put out yesterday on top of some stacked boxes where the cat can't get to it. The blackbirds are fighting over it now. Must remember to find bird seed today to add to the next batch and have put lard on the shopping list again.

        Shirley,

Is it possible to do something similar with the fat from a deep fat fryer or will it not set?

Don't think it would set but give it a try, maybe they would like it anyway - or maybe mix half and half with suet or lard and see if that made it set harder.

            Birdy's

Today I cleaned out my long tube feeder thingy, dismantled all the aluminium bits and washed it in hot soapy diluted bleach, scrubbed it well. reassembled it and filled it up with no-mess seed.

I cleaned out the many dishes of water and refilled them.

Put food on the ground, table and in cage thingy on floor to stop pigeons and doves hoovering it all up. Put food in hanging robin dish feeder thing.

Then one of them pooed all down the glass back door.
