  • How cold were you today?

Half past six this morning my car reckoned it was -5C.

We have hovered between -7 and -5 the last three mornings, with the temp never getting above +2 during the day (See my blog about how to lift leeks in this weather ) In addition, just to make things more interesting, we had freezing fog today which didn't lift all day.
Was on my second last box delivery just after 8 this evening - home of a Highland Councillor, new build, only been moved in three weeks, nice new tarmac drive - I drove up it, touched the brakes and the van just kept goingin a straight line, stopping no more than 9 inches from his nice new champagne harling

Only one night here in the last week which has been above freezing - and that was the night I hoped was clear and cold to see the sky!!!! ..Typical eh??

Ground frost never lifted of the road and lawn in the shaded areas here.

I LOVE these cold crisp sunny days!!!!

( and all the better for killing off the bugs on the lottie/garden eh???)

Had wood burning stove going now since last Friday! ....must be cold!

        Close shave Rat!
Checked my max/min thermometer in the greenhouse this morning, and the Max was 2c, Min -6c.

There was a 7 car pile up on the by-pass the other morning because the gritters didn't go out til 8am...apparantly there was patches of black-ice - very lucky no-one was seriously injured.

I thought it was just my frozen hand (& feet) behaving normal when in fact it has been a freezing cold day by an average person's standard. Hands have thawed out now so easier to type.

Had to take me car in for a check-up first thing this (ooops yesterday) morning. Outside temp said -5c at 8 am, -2c when I got to the garage 9 am. No loan car available so I wandered off to find a bus and it started bloody snowing. I wasn't dressed for it. Thought I'd be in a nice comfy loan car .

At home the car reckoned it was -4, then on the way to work it dropped to -6.5. This morning it hovered around a tropical 1-2 degrees.

Got back from the station last night, car said -5. Interesting amount of black ice to play with......

However, I have a frost pocket in the garden (just where the vegs are!) and the thermometer in the tunnel was reading -9 yesterday - I haven't ventured out yet today to see what is was last night. Greenhouse heater didn't cope, and it touched freezing in there too.

And we're in the (supposedly) mild south east!

We had -5 8am yesterday morning as well, but when I went out to bring OH home from his office 'do' at midnight it had risen to a cosy -1 !!

                          Keep warm and snuggly everyone!

                              -5 for us too!

                              Such a pretty morning.

You should see the hordes of folks waiting for taxis at 1in the morning in central Manchester in their disco gear!!!
