Could anyone offer advice on sending these through the post? I have been offered some sweet chestnut seedlings by a kind member and just wondered if anyone has any guidelines on how to send them.
thanks
Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
TonyF sent me oak seedlings - they were wrapped in damp kitchen paper then placed in a plastic box (if my memory serves properly). They arrived safe and sound.
The way I prefer is to wrap the roots with a bit of wet compost and polythene fastened at the stem. Get a plastic pop bottle, cut the neck off a couple of inches down with scissors so you have a cone shape. Slip the neck of the bottle over the seedling, put the rest of the bottle upside down over the inverted neck. Tape it together with selotape and wrap with brown paper as usual.
What you have formed is a mini greenhouse for the plant that will also protect it/them from being crushed!
