  • What's your best Christmas pressie?

    Merry Christmas everybody!

Now I know 'tis better to give than to receive, but what is your best or favourite Christmas gift that you've received?

I can't answer yet because I've not opened mine. But the OH has bought me a Christmas card with a 'perfect partner' badge pinned to it, and I've been made to wear it!!! So thats a good start (even if it is nowhere near being true!!! )

Don't know yet, only just got in from work (started at 7. 45 this morning). Will get back to you when I find out. Oh yes, not a material present but it was good knowing No. 1 son got back safely in time for Christmas with his family.

Well our best pressies were a new digital camera and a scanner with attachment for slides. So I'm gonna scan in all our old holiday piccies taken as slides, when the OH wanted stuff for lectures - afterall its all Powerpoint now. Should keep me busy for a while. But not playing with them 'til tomorrow in case I try plugging the wrong bit into the wrong socket!

Happy bunny here! I got an old fashioned garden trug (I think made from willow), been dropping hints for ABSOLUTELY ages, and a beautiful angora sweater and cashmere scarf (just bliss!)

And my husband also made me a selection of wooden garden dibbers and some wooden name spikes, bless him.

I got a lovely bottle of perfume (the last one had nearly run out), a pair of slippers (been hinting for 4 years) a superb slow cooker recipe book and a super duper sexy corset (something else I have wanted for years). And good old dad bought me a bottle of whisky!!! (and remembered I like Bells, not Teachers) happy Shirley girl!!!

Mk2 son wants me to add that he is over the moon because he got a Mamod live steam road roller - he has been outside all evening playing wth it!
                Happy Gardening,

I got a very generous contribution towards my new greenhouse from my Mum but my favourite present to open was Christopher Lloyd's 'Gardener Cook', also from Mum:

Amazon.co.uk: Gardener Cook: Books: Christopher Lloyd,Howard Sooley

A really lovely combo of cooking and gardening, very 'me'
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

I've had some wonderfully thoughtful gifts this year which I am utterly delighted with - but amonst the best was my grumpy cat Domino (black and white chappy normally my avatar) jumping up uninvited to sit on my lap for a cuddle for only about the second time in his whole life.

His first choice was the settee, but wot with my mum stretched out having '40 winks' on it at the time, he decided that I was the better option, I think...

I've had some lovely presents today - my friend bought me a brill 'garden journal' with lots of loose leaf graph paper/plastic pockets for seed packets, a section for photos & pockets for magazine clippings! It's great! I also got chocolate & the new Dick Francis, plus 2 lots of garden centre vouchers, AND some vouchers for LBS Garden Warehouse which is just up the road. (Look what you can get from here!! Buy discount gardening equipment online - Garden Warehouse) Honestly, it's been a real bonanza for me today, which has me almost tearful - as a Mum you just slog yourself to make the day lovely for everyone else and that's it's own reward really, so it's really unexpected & very touching to see the same effort & thought gone into the gifts I've had.

We bought each other Sneerboer trowels and I also got a Sneeboer small hand bulb planter, plus DVDs and CDs and books including the Geoff Hamilton set of DVDs.

J is flying back to UK this morning for a family wedding on Saturday and is threatening to bring me something else back! Probably M&S knickers (only the butch man type of course) and some other 'bits and bobs'.

Bestest part, sort of pressie, is having Xmas lunch with 4 chums, one of the other guys cooked and believe it or not, 50% of the day was spent discussing gardening and the potager we're putting in at the chateau they are gardiens for. Sort of planning what we need for lunch NEXT Xmas.

OH's best present was having his 5 year old daughter for the day (only second time since she was born). Then at the end of the day, we all asked what was your fave present, and she said, unprompted: "being with my dad". Everyone round the table burst into tears. Perfect.
