They still make them SBP but new ones cost well over a hundred quid (a bit steep for a 12 year old to then lose interest) so we bought an old one that needs a bit of restoration. Was lovely to see the lad outdoors getting it to build up a head of steam and blow the whistle!! He only came in to watch Dr Who (at which point the heavens opened)

Do you know, reading these replies makes me realise how lucky we are being gardeners. We nearly all get some presents to do with gardening, so can put them to good use.

You here so many non gardeners, moaning about unwanted Christmas presents that end up in the back of a drawer.

          Lucky old us.
          God bless all of us.

My best prezzies were smiles and hugs from Shirls and the boys.

However, in terms of things - a small LED head lamp thingy I can wear on my head to illuminate the inside of my old '55 Seeburg V200 when I am repairing it... It keeps breaking down again as Shirls didn't use it when I was away.

Our garden gave us some yummy carrots and turnips for christmas as well.
            Let's go diggin' dirt....

Big silver bird, come land low and slow
Cut your engines, cool your wings,
            You've taken me home...

I quite agree Reverend! We looked at all out presents again last night and all three of us (me, husband and no 2 son) reckoned that we had received so many wonderful things (nothing huge or major) but all that we were going to use for our respective interests (gardening, sailing and painting) all through the year and beyond. Plus we would always think of the person who had given it to us when using it too, which we thought the best part of the present.

Lots of gerloggerlogger (family in-joke, Grandson can't say chocolate yet). A new set of saucepans (stainless steel, lovely), 2008 diary so I don't have to overwrite last years, twiglets (love them), candles enough to see me through a week long powercut, phone calls from my kids and brother. All in all a good time.

                    Hi
My best present was one I had to buy for myself, a new Devon Rex kitten called Cocoa Pilbeam. A real little black and white terror, she's a tiny bundle of atomic energy and although she's easily small enough for the other cats to bit her head off, she manages to terrorise both of them.

For the garden I've got a much wanted cold frame and a ladybird box and for the kitchen a Krups coffee maker, which is fast proving a favourite, has an insulated thermos to keep the coffee hot and no hot plate to stew it.

Having 15 people about the table enjoying good food and great freindship was the best thing about Christmas, present wise it has to be my new workshop toy, a sliding mitre saw.

My big brother gave me a camouflage apron and oven gloves, and a little book of wartime recipes along with 3 packs of 'Dig for Victory' seeds. (he works at Duxford, and I always make a beeline for that area whenever I visit!)

Got some onions to sow now...

Lots of good things but the best present of all was the announcement by our daughter and her husband that they are expecting their second child in July! See one happy Gran get her quilting fabrics out!
