  • New Year's Resolutions - 2008

It said in the paper yesterday that NY resolutions which are considered and thought about are more likely to be kept than those that are just thought up on the spot. No surprise there. So I'm mulling over what in my life I would like to do more/less of and my aims for the New Year.

So now I have a list as long as my arm.....

HOWEVER, when you roll all of these together - for me - it boils down to:

    Prevaricate less, organise more.

In practical terms that's writing a manageable and realistic 'to do' list every day and stick to it. Review the list every night.

And why do I think that this is important? Because the ol' work ethic makes me feel uneasy if I feel I've 'wasted time', and the sense of acheivement from doing what I want to do makes me feel good.

    What's everyone elses?

The only way I find that I can stick to NY resolutions is..... don't make any

I've got about as much willpower as a drunken gnat but I do like the idea of making a list of tasks and trying to stick to it.

Here's to 2008, good luck everyone.

I think achievable goals are the thing. If I say I will lose weight nothing happens. If I say I will lose 8 lb - I can do this. (I do it every year then put it back on in the winter!)

      So - I will lose 8 lb!
I will give up alcohol for Lent (again - gives the liver a holiday!)
I will start a new blog. The blogspot ones give you more photo space. New Year, New Blog (but probably NOT on New Year's Day!)

I would like to think I could:
orgainse my garden and gardening life rather than just 'bunge' things in
        lose the art of procrasination
        drink less alcohol

        Here's to all you Rats

        Year of the Rat –1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020, 2032, 2044

Though in people's eyes, the rat is not adorable, and even some Chinese sayings that related to it have almost derogatory meanings, it ranged as the head of the Chinese zodiac. It was recognized as an animal with spirit, wit, alertness, delicacy, flexibility and vitality.

People under the rat sign are usually smart and willing to accumulate wealth and to make efforts to be successful. Throughout their lives, there will be many other people who can bring great fortune to them. Thus despite timidity, most of them are happy and harmonious with others.

Best match: dragon, monkey, ox; Avoid: sheep, horse, rabbit, rooster

I'm not sure if these are New Year resolutions but sure like 90% of the UK population , I'd like to lose weight...a stone is just okay but 2 stones even better).

The most looking forward to project for 2008 is still to do with vegetable growing effort as 2007 could hardly be called an effort with recollection of just eating tons of spinach, runner beans and courgettes! I didn't get the chance to grow loads more veg variety as I was too late starting off.

Hopefully I could push the house extension project for 2008 into a reality as we all know, it's the only way to afford a bigger house these days .

I must promise myself to teach my son to read words and counting after 10, he's only just turned 3! Can't be too ambitious.

            Hi

I find that it is better for me to give up chocolate/buns for six months. This is the same goal, to lose weight; but just a general resolution does not work for me.

Grow more veg, sell more veg, increase box delivery scheme to at least 75 per week, make more money, spend more time with wife, daughter and new born (after birth that is), start employing someone, buy tractor, repoint front of house with lime mortar, rescue my garden from full year of neglect, rabbit proof my 5 acres with fencing, shoot and eat more pheasants and rabbits, purchase another commercial polytunnel, grow straberries, start proper herb garden at my site, hardcore entrance / parking area at my site - sure there are loads and loads more that I have forgotten but therefore the above are the most important - but they are not necessarily listed in order of priority

LOL! Is that a revenge for destroying your cash crops? . But I do understand...just as well they're edible, not like rats.

Hi Rat, is that just for this year then:?

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Mine would be (like 95% of the female population....) to lose some weight.

Also to organise myself more. It's come to a head this week when on Friday I lost my son's insulin (fell off the dining table onto a chair so I couldn't see it on the table, or floor, or anywhere else I looked....) and then today we went and ordered a new sofa from DFS and I left my sodding mobile in there. Someone's found it and not returned it - it's now switched off which probably means my SIM card has been removed... Only had the darned thing 3 weeks too . It's just a fine example of disorganised me

This year I will definitely pot on the seedlings on time, and plant out on the lottie when I should instead of leaving them to become bonsai cabbages, leeks, etc. Still, having said that, the leeks although very late going out are looking good. I will also not sow more tomatoes and chillies than I need!!!!

Shall we make a diary date to review this thread in 12 months time?
                              For my part:
                              • lose weight - at least get on the way to a total weight loss of 2.5 stone
                              • plant out seedlings on time
                              • stress less at work and delegate more
                              • get out walking more
                              • spend time admiring the small things in life - a crocus, a spider's web, hover flies etc
                              • be kinder
                              • keep my blog updates -as a record of what I did on the plot last year, it has huge gaps
                              • raise more money for Cancer Research by doind the 10k run as well as the Race for Life

Not much, it it? Oh dear
