    Thanks for the link Jennie.

I think, as many a nail biter will tell you, because we bite our nails they become very weak and prone to splitting and breaking and it is the broken, rough edges that get caught and tear even more and that can often be enough to start us biting. This oil looks like a great way to break the cycle (says she, hopefully )

Hope it helps Scarey. Mine are weak and split due to psoraisis (spell?) and this has really toughened them up over the last couple of months. I now have nails that I can file! It will be interesting to see how they fare during the gardening season.

I wonder if it would help me. I don't bite my nails but I DO chew my left thumb so the nail is always broken and split. You'd a thought I'd a grown out of this at my age .

Just made a new New Year's Resolution. MUST LABEL EVERYTHING THAT GOES INTO THE FREEZER! Veg is OK cos that's recognizable, but I have just had a sort out and found several bags/tubs of something that could be either chilli sauce, pasta sauce, leftover bolognese sauce etc. etc. etc. Trouble is I can eat anything, but daughter is veggie, and I don't know whether she has frozen them or me. Some interesting dinners coming up, methinks? Can't be as bad as the time I made meat pies and fruit pies, and the labels fell off!!!!

                That could work ????

Seriously though, keep at it - My Sister and Mum have lovely nails so there's hope for us yet. I found that something like Nailtiques or, can't remember the name OPL? did work for a while - something to do with having shiny nails but then once thay had grown to a sensible length I did something like gardening or painting and they were right back to the elbows again

Well after a long stint away from this forum, I'm back my NYR's are:

                    1. to spend more time here as I'm going to get back into gardening...I gave up last year after getting the greenhouse up as most of my veg plants died in the torrential rain the month before as they were left out in the garden unprotected and I could resurrect any and so had hardly any veg in the patch. So this will be my first year with a GH and I'll be looking for lots of advice

                    2. Only grow the things I am going to eat - no more broccoli that just is a waste of space in a small garden, no more french beans, just cos they look nice, no more broad beans just to annoy the neighbour as I always start mine in November and so get an earlier and better crop and definitely no more sweetcorn as I've tried to grow it 4 years in a row and never had any success so it's time to give up on that one.

                    3. Spend more time with friends, which will mean making the effort to travel into Edinburgh and socialise more instead of being agoraphobic in aberdour.

                    4. Go for long walks with OH and dog at the w/e and get away from the computer.

                    5. And last but not least...do one long hike/trek every month [e.g. a munro] with a couple of friends who have also agreed on this one - start early and finish early enough to hit the pub for a bite to eat and a pint.

                      Good to see you, Eskymo!

You've reminded me of something that I've resolved to do, and that is MAKE THE EFFORT to go to the flicks once a month as it is so much fun once you've got off your lardy arse. The last film I saw was the first lord of the rings christmas about 4 years ago.

With this in mind, we're going to see I Am Legend at the multiplex on Sat night. Might really push the boat out an have a curry afterwards if we can stand the fast living.

that's part of my going to Edinburgh to see friends thing as we've just totally stopped going to the cinema - we used to go every week - but we did want to take advantage of that Orange offer we used to get when you got one ticket free on Wednesdays which helped. I'm going to do a monthly list of what I want to see and email that to friends and say 'I'm going to see these films, on these days, at these times - see you in the bar before or after' . I did this a few times last year and it was good.

I know we've mentioned the "D" word (diet) in this thread, but honestly some of the ads which come up when I log on to the site:

I have to confess Jennie, that I never notice the ads till someone points out a funny one! I'm evidently not an advertising agency's dream punter!

Sorry to get here late, first time back since the christmas break ... and HOW many new posts??!! Think there might have to be a bit of selective reading! But anyhoo, ressies - the family sat down at 3am on 1st Jan and wrote down our five each, so no getting away from them now!! Mine are - lose a stone, restart yoga, read more, organise the new lottie (yeh, bit vague but y'no!..!), and organise a family holiday this summer (for 12!).

Good luck to all .... lets have a check back later in the year ...
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance
