  • How tall is exceptionally tall?

I seem to recall (my memory isn't great) reading an article in GYO this month (which is actually February) about tool for the plot, and there was a piece where the author mentioned that they use an azada (as do I). They also said that "unless you are exceptionally (or some other such word) tall", you should be alright with the shaft/handle of the azada being (again, memory a little hazy at this juncture) around 3' 3".

I just wondered when one reaches "exceptional" height?

When you bump your head on an ordinary height door-frame?!
Not something I'll ever have a problem with, being the archetypal short-arse (5ft...just!)

      Look in the mirror HW!

I'm a shortie too, so everyone is tall to me! I suppose I'd say anything over 6'4" would be exceptionally tall.

I'm sure I've read somewhere though that even if you aren't tall, long handles are better for azadas? I might be making that up though
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom

I've come to take you home."

Flum Junior is the same height as HeyWayne by the way. Tall enought to get a neck-ache talking to us shorties!

Tell 'im to go to Next, or M&S, they both do X-long trews (35" inside leg - which is just about right). I bought a pair of joggers from a local freak shop (up to 8XL and up to 40" inside leg) near me, in 38" inside leg - t'is great!

Posted a question to the dude I bought my azada from, to see if they supplied a longer handle, or if he'd manufacture one - don't fancy my chances.

Hmmmm, you may be able to buy that sort of length leg in the men's section of Next, but the women's believe that 31" is tall in the shops and 33" in the categlogue is their absolute max for extra long - not much help when you're 34"!

LTS for you then! LadyWayne's about the same - however, she finds that the stuff at Long Tall Sally is just too long. No winning is there!

Currently wearing a suit from LTS but that doesn't give you that much range as it's only a small range and some if it is, quite frankly, dodgy as hell! Tend to know where to pick things up but do get annoyed that even the shops that realise that some people have longer legs, they don't seem to catch on that you might also have longer arms......... Also, loads of stuff gets longer only in the bigger sizes, not good for tall, thinner people (or presumably short, fatter ones either)!

D'you have the same problem with shoes HW? My cousins are both well over 6ft, but it's shoes that cause them the most problems - they both have clown feet, one is size 14, the other size 15 and 'trendy' footwear just doesn't seem to come that big especially out in the wilds of Yorkshire! I think there's one place in Leeds they go to, but they're more of a 'school shoe' shop... 6 monthly trips to London with Uncle Jim is costing my aunt a fortune!

I'm lucky in that sense, I have quite small feet (12). My brother-in-law has size 16 however, and he does struggle from time to time. He buys his online now (mostly ebay), but before the widespread use of the internerd he had real trouble. He even managed recently to acquire a couple of pairs of flip-flops.

I was 6ft 5 when I left school and I had to have black socks so that the gap between shoe and trouser hem wasn't so noticeable. Otherwise I'd hear "Invite your trousers down for tea", or "when's the flood?". Hilarious!

Finding clothes that fit is a bit of a chore, though shops are getting better. My next mission is to get the standard height of a door raised from 6ft 6 (which it's been since about 1840) to a decent height - something like 6ft 10.

Flum Junior finds trousers (somewhere!) to fit. I'm implying that exceptionally tall is TALLER than you! Mainly because as a mum of a biggie you assume your child is 'normal'.

brother-in-law is just that and although he's very tall, you tend not to notice or even care enough to look twice at him if you were to see him in the street. But when you do see a exceptionally tall man, it puts a childish smile on my face (like seeing a lovely polar bear ). My 3 year old son will reach an estimated height of 6' 6" but I'm thinking the average male height will be at least 6 feet in his time .
