Think I was practising my "if I keep smiling like this Mum won't notice the burn on the carpet from mucking about with my chemistry set" look.

Practise makes us a little better, it doesn't make us perfect.

Ah magnesium, such fun stuff! I think that's what we were trying to make when we burnt the carpet.

My brother decided once to put everything in the kit in a test tube once with a spoonful of coffee granules, put a cork in the test tube then hold it over the flame (that bottle thing with the turps and a wick). Result: large brown patch on the ceiling that you couldn't paint over. It was there for years, only disappeared when Mum & Dad had the ceiling re-artexed!

Eeeek! My lovely sister just bought George a chemistry set for his birthday ( I'm gonna kill her!).
