We have it worked out, this (the Vine) is 'my' computer thing, he spends his life on youtube looking at funny videos. Neither of us pretend to understand the other. Occasionally we show each other stuff and talk about/laugh at it together.

My family feel a bit left out when I'm on this forum as it's new thing for me. Sam, 10 has just joined a cornsnake forum and Amy, 13 wants to join a cat forum. OH has just joined a porche 911 forum, I can't imagine any of the members are as welcoming and friendly as you lot! I'm looking forward to Spring, adding to all your good general chit chat, more threads on growing veggies.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

OH doesn't really "do" forums. But he has gotten to the stage in relation to my other main one of suggesting when something is wrong with the toddler that doesn't require urgent doctor trips, that I should "ask the Magic Mums" - another bunch nearly as friendly as the Vine. And he does admit that I've been steered well on here too.
But he isn't a member of any and doesn't post to any himself - although he occasionally reads a few for useful topics.
ETA - by the way, another Magic Mum came up with a far better solution than tw****rs or chilli hands: Cinnamon oil in the bath. I've never resorted to it myself, but I understand the results are usually very successful......Last edited by Winged one; 10-01-2008, 03:24 PM.

Madmax is a member of the vine and enjoys the chat and gossip even if he isn't terribly into gardening yet. He also belongs to some car forums and jukebox ones too, but the operate in a totally different way to this one. Not nearly so friendly and chatty. Older son has his own web comic and a runs a forum with that (recently started) younger son is a model steam enthusiast and we just joined a forum for that too (again not nearly as user-friendly as this one)Happy Gardening,

My husband works all day with computers and wants something different at home. He is also ultra suspicious of people who want to 'talk' to total strangers. I belong to a couple of quilting groups online and when one lots of us got together at one girl's house for a weekend he wanted to know how I knew they weren't axe murderers! Naturally, we now sometimes call our group the Axe Murderers!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

The nice thing about forums is when participants meet up in real life. The strangest thing is when you realise that you probably know some of the people anyway but don't realise it as they don't use their own names on the forum. A number of the forums I use do have get togethers in real life, it's a great way to make friends as you all have something in common and that breaks the ice very quickly. Both OH and I are forummers albeit different ones.I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

I joined the Vine way back when, and at the time was a member of other gardening forums but veggies sort of took over - both in the forums and in my life. Now I have the Vine and my 5 acre Market Garden, OH has multiple TV Channels so she's happy too !! (bet she won't be so happy come March when baby will be 4 weeks old and I'm working 16 hour days, 7 days a week again !!)Rat
