  • Wonderful Woolies!!

Now I totally blame Hans Mum here who said yesterday that Woolies have propagators for sale - so I've just been to have a quick nosy around (just, as you do), and LOOKING RIGHT AT ME is this mini greenhouse! Half Price!!

I know that they are no substitute for the 'real thing' but in my sheltered courtyard garden (especially as I can 'wall mount' it) it will give my seedlings that little bit of protection from the birds, the frosts and the cats!

    YIPPEEE!!!

Oh - they have Mr Fothergill seeds on buy one get one free, and the fruit bushes (kiwi, blueberry etc) are all half price.....

Bargain! I had two of those last year and they're great as long as you weight them down
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

I have one of those mini greenhouses but I was unsure if I could use it yet for putting seedlings in. Do you think it will be ok? I wasn't sure if it would provide enough protection. Be useful to use it soon as I'm running our of windowsills!!

Depends on your seedlings, duggie - I'll be putting my onion seedlings in, broad beans and cauli seedlings when mine's up.

I'm only sowing thing which are down as 'hardy' as I don't think that the little g/h will offer very much protection.

I'm also going to sow some sweet peas and ordinary (hardy) peas, and perhaps loo-roll sow some parsnip seed next month.

Besides that, I'm sitting on my hands for another month or so before I put in anything more tender.

                Hi Hazel,

I got 2 of those for raising seedlings too but mine were only 3 tiers (cost 15 eur/ set). They work fine raising seedling but you will have to tied it to the wall or weigh it with some heavy pot at the bottom as they can't take strong wind...fly away like the flies....

Will power sounds like resist temptation management... ... well done Hans Mum.

Thanks everyone. I will weight it down and put in my onion seedlings and sweet peas. I took on my allotment last August but it was very overgrown with brambles so I haven't been able to grow very much. Getting really excited about the coming season and am itching to start.

Been to Woolworth today. I bought a four-tier staging for £9.99 (half price) which although is the same price at Wilko but my logic told me that if it was reduced from £19.99, the Woolworth one might be better quality...probably not .

Went to Woolies today. Fruit trees for £9. 99 each (don't need any so I resisted). Fruit bushes etc good value, but I don't need any so I resisted. Did buy onion sets (Red Baron and Sturon, £2. 99 each BOGOFF). Unfortunately when I got home and unpacked them the Red Baron are totally mouldy so they are going back for refund or replacement. No seeds in yet!!

The onion sets are substantially cheaper in Wilko surely or are you talking about bigger pack. I got 250g red onion sets (Red Karmen) for £1 (easily over 100s) and I paid £1.49 for 50 red sets at a GC.

My husband found me in Woolworths yesterday, kneeling on the floor busily sorting through all of the half-price plants. When he saw the pile in front me, he just muttered 'I'd better get a basket'!

So, I bought red currant, black currant, tayberry, gooseberry, 2 roses, acer, potato vine and a wiegela - and the bill was under £20.

i have sown quite a lot yesterday to go in my little g-house, although i have put them in propagators in the g-house to give them more chance. i thought i may as well try, if it gets really cold i will put some little tealights undera pot in the bottom to warm them up.

I have found a dry spell this afternoon to put the mini greenhouse in it's new home on the SE facing garage wall.

Terrified of it blowing away with all my ickle seedlings in after all the tales of woe on here, I have drilled a couple of eyelet jobbies into the garage wall and strapped it down, and have a heavy bag of compo on the bottom shelf.

Hmm. If I had another 2 eyelet wotsits and strapped round the bottom too, I wouldn't have to give up the bottom shelf to ballast....

                              I'm well chuffed!
