You been watching 'Lark Rise...'? Thought it looked very hammy from the clips?

As to whether you could watch more, well there's that one on C4 thats actually supposed to be good, 'City of Vice' about the early Bow Street runners!

Trousers, I think if you donned tight britches and a wet white shirt, Wellie might make it worth your while!!!
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Seahorse, just look at his avatar, thats him and me with our tight britches about our ankles, what more could Wellie want?

Bring back Clarkson in 2 hour specials and let him blow up all the costume drama frocks, and ponys with traps, flies or other wooden wheeled transport.

Watched Lark Rise to Cranford last night! Kept getting the characters mixed up - never happened when I read the books.

Can't be doing with Clarkson though. If I said what I thought about him I'd be modded!

Unfortunately, I really really loved the old version of Pride and Prejudice that the Beeb made in time for our Inter Cert preparations (after 3 years in secondary school- now called the Junior Cert). So it was in circulation on video in Ireland by about 1988/89 or so. The version where the girl who played Charlotte later played one of the leads in Sense and Sensibility. But I have been unable to track it down, as the Beeb then went and made another version a few years back with the guy who was opposite Hugh thingy in Bridget Jones Diary (Colin somebody? not Farrell anyway). and that is the only version available from the Beeb for a long time.

I must try to get a hold of some nice ones on DVD now (all my "nice" films are on video and the toddler has managed something with toast or similar so it doesn't work well anymore - or else OH has played with leads again and not told me (aka refusing for the sake of his sanity!) how it all works now). I do like a good costume drama, when I have time to watch it all or can come back to it. (And the iPlayer only works in the UK, unlike the Channel 4 version which we CAN watch here on OH's laptop, so no catchup for me....).

                  This version?

Play.com (UK) : Pride and Prejudice (1980) (Region 1 DVD) : DVD - Free Delivery

There is a boxed set of 'older' Jane Austen/Beeb stuff. The R1 (ie USA) discs seem to have the pre-Firth Pride & Prejudice, whereas R2 (UK) has Firth's version.

Play.com (UK) : Jane Austen: The Complete Collection (Region 1 DVD) : DVD - Free Delivery

Am tempted to get the Collection for the Northanger Abbey dvd.

They're now making Larks Spit Sensibly in Cranford, it's a merging of all costume dramas including war films it will star every dead actor, can you guess who:
                        Mr Darcy-Bennett played by.....
                        Emma played by.....
Sarah Heskings (the doomed maid who sinks in the bogs) played by.....
Reverand Round (who is love with Darcy but hides it with affection for Emma) played by.....
Mr & Mrs Giblet (the lovable peasants who were once servants and now live by the sea) played by.....
David Bobblehat (infected with a desire for greenhouses at an early age) played by.....
Mrs Bonkersham (rich, mad and surrounded by wellies from her wedding day) played by.....
Pip, Squeak and Toss (rogues and cads the lot of them) played by.....
There may be more characters, any suggestions?
                        Best wishes

Isn't watching these programmes a bit like watching Eastenders 100 years from now?

I watched that one last night Manda, it was a bit better than the usual 'bonnet brigade', I'm not a big fan of those. I think it gave quite a good 'feel' of peoples attitudes around that time, not very nice to say the least!
