It was the celebs that got all the perks, not the people working on the series - tho when I did the stuff for the Reader's Digest book on genealogy, I got well paid for that!!!
Grr, Tony! At my former place of work we were contacted by Time Team to not only provide our expertise but also thousands of pounds worth of equipment (for free!). A decidedly frosty response ensued when we said 'er... no'!

But then again there's an entire episode of TT featuring my childhood home, which I really can't help feeling a bit smug about!
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

When I did my family tree it was pre-internet (remember that time?) with the ancestors from Somerset and Walsall some travel was inevitable and probably made it more interesting. Hours spent "banging the books" at the family history centre and winding handles on microfilm left hours to thought and contemplation.

Rather than dates and generations I now have more interest in the why people did things, why they moved, why they married, why the deaths, why all the kids. The social history is far more captivating than g,g,g,g,g,gf born in 1532.

Someone traced Madderbats Father's family back to 1380 it was quite easy as she has a unusual sirname & comes from Cornwall where people tended not to move far untill recent times.
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.
