  • i've started this year's growing!

    hooray!
i've done virtually nothing in the veggie patch over the last couple of months - all i've had growing is cauliflower seedlings in the greenhouse and carrots in the ground - and weeds
i've been seriously lacking motivation to get rid of the weeds and clean the greenhouse and prepare everything for this year

but the girlfriend dragged me in woolworths yesterday and i saw 4 good rhubarb crowns so bought them - the girlfriend then nagged me to plant them today
so i went out, dug over the rhubarb patch and planted the crowns
and now i'm feeling really motivated again and want to get stuck into the veggie patch again

lots to do, few bits to get - but it's all systems go and gonna crack on with it (rain permitting!)

it's amazing how much effect a little encouragement has!

    I agree FG!

Dark mornings, dark nights and orrible weather in between does tend to dampen the spirit a bit, but as you say there's so much to do at the allotment and it is so peaceful, I at least try and devote one of my weekend days to it each week!

I planted some garlic in pots last week and went to move them to a drier spot yesterday - they're starting to poke through already! So now I'm all fired up and raring to go ... it's sooo difficult to wait and be patient, I want to start growing NOW! You'r right, a little encouragement goes a long way
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

I must get mine in before it dies like last year! If only it would stay dry for a few days!

I don't think I remember it ever being this wet! We usually escape most of Wales' weather and get our own lovely microclimate. It is going to take a while to dry out this time!

Shirl, would you not start your garlic off in pots and plant otdoors when the ground dries up. I planted mine indoors in pots about a month ago and they are growing away.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Would do but the ground is so wet I don't even fancy going up to the shed to get pots and compost!
