I had one say it was from paypal and my account had been breached by a thrid party and for security i needed to email two forms of id a copy of my driving liscence and a house hold bill / bank statment so they can varify my account and unfreeze it. funny how when i log on to paypal it didn't say any of that. the email had also highjacked paypal address and came from same place as the receipts do, good job i don't even trust myself else i might have done it.

I used to know someone who worked with a group trying to counter these fraud emails. They would enter into bizarre correspondence, promising all sorts, elaborating how to get their money they would be coming to Nigeria directly bringing various relations, needing accomodation, hard matresses for bad backs, diabetic food, south facing windows etc, the scammers got more and more annoyed but didn't want to give up just in case, took them ages to catch on.

What sort of anti-spam filter are you using?

Don't ever reply to the emails - not even to be removed - the address to be removed is often identical to the 'I want to subscribe' address, quite deliberate, so if you reply you are 'accepting' in terms of your filter and will get the things forever.

Funnily enough, I tend to get a lot of pharmaceutical spam (maybe 5 a day?) which goes to my Virgin email address. My Hotmail account never gets any spam whatsoever. If I'd had to lay bets, I'd have though it would be the other way around!

Anything like this, even when they are non-fraud emails, it's best to go through your own link (or google to access the site, not the links they provide in the email. There are some bl**dy good ones out there, and if you use the links they go to very well build fakes sites. Going through a link you have found rather than the email link will stop any issues from this
