Took my mum out for a meal and then to the pictures to see Aline V Predator Requiem (she's a big sci-fi fan!) last night. Just bought our munchies for the film and was hanging around waiting for them to open to screen when I noticed a group of people having their photo taken.....

Always the nosey one, I mooched over and spotted Andy Serkis of LotR's Gollum fame!!

Cue me scrabbling for a pen and a bit of paper and trying to remember how the camera on my phone worked! haha

Plucked up the courage to go and speak to him - what a thoroughly lovely bloke! We had a chat for a few minutes then he introduced me to Jennifer Ellison and the chap out of League of Gentlemen who I hadn't even noticed standing there!

And all this in a backwater cinema complex - not even the main one in Coventry!

Anyone else met famous types in low-key settings?

Razorlight in Newark Airport [USA not UK], on the same Virgin Economy flight as me. Making quite a ruckus chatting up the female crew [well, the drummer was, anyway]. I would have understood if it had been JFK but Newark!!! They obviously hadn't made it back then! I think they date quite famous models now...

Once in 1983 when I was Office Manager of the Cornish Guardian, he came out of the newspaper office as I was walking in from lunch - we bumped into one another and said 'oh sorry, excuse me'. He was slim then....

A couple months ago, in Wallingford, I walked out of a Hardware store and he was walking in front of the store, again we bumped!! He was shooting MidSomer Murders. He wasn't slim then....

Peter Sellers in our local. He was married to Miranda Quarry at the time and they were staying with her sister and brother-in-law. Intriguing that he was in the "spit and sawdust" and not the "posh" bar, and was playing darts with some locals.

Pierce Brosnan - at work - both him and me. I was working at Upper Rissington where they filmed the last scenes of "Die Another Day". Got a photo to prove it!

Know Keith Floyd quite well, he lived just down the road from me until recently and drank in the same hostelries.

I've 'met' (as in seen but been too shy to speak to!) Dawn French & Lenny Henry doing their grocery shopping, Rory McGrath & Tony Robinson waiting for a train and Hugh Scully at a castle in France. I've had several brushes with Janet Street Porter. My Great Aunt was her cleaner at her Yorkshire house (when she was married to Frank Cvitanovich) and I once had Christmas dinner with her (almost! - neighbouring tables!). Unfortunately I was very much not a fan at the time but she's since grown on me hugely with her 'F*** Off' attitude to being a middle aged woman!!!

I used to work for a chap who was the Duke of Edinburgh's carriage driving instructor so I met most of the royal family. Princess Anne is a good laugh. Met Colonel John Parker (drives the Norwich Union stagecoach) a few times, most of the showjumping and other horsey people of the early '80s. Also went to see Close Encounters with a young man who called himself Suggs - I am not sure if he went on to be lead singer with Madness but he did live locally at the time so it is a possibility. Madmax went to school with some interesting folks.

I used to work with George Harrison's nephew and I was once in church with Lance Percival (don't say who ) and I used to look after the rabbits of John Scott Martin who was the chief Dalek on the original Dr Who.

That reminds me, I also met George Martin when I worked for a publishing and recording place, and the highlight of that job was chatting on the phone to a guy with the most fantastic voice - one Sir Anthony Hopkins!!! as well as many other Welsh stars (we were doing a recording of Under Milk Wood)

Oh, I could also add that I once went out with a sound engineer who worked with Bjork/The Sugar Cubes/World Party and others. He was a complete git though, so it's hardly a claim to fame I also shared a house with Hot Chocolate's bass player but see above re git status!

My claim is that i met Plank from Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels in the checkout queue in tescos, he has such a distinctive voice i heard it and turned round as i was saying to my friend "that bloke sounds like Pla....."

a real nice guy - still dont know what his real name is though
