The chap who lived next door but one to us (when I was about 7 or 8) was a cameraman for ATV, and their daughter was a few years older than me and used to walk me up to brownies on a Monday evening.

Went round one monday as per, and sitting in their kitchen was Chris Tarrent. I guess that this would have been in Tiswas days. I rememeber he tried on my brownie beret, and he was very tall!

His brother was a greengrocer in Polesworth

I stood in a pub once and a chap walked in the landlord said

          "Usual Bob?"

"yes please replies the man" I stood aside and said "here you go I'll let you in"

Only to be confronted by Robert Plant

And the best story is Geoff Lynn ( of ELO fame) used to frequent our local Indian Restaurant. One evening he nipped next door to the pub for a drink with his best mate George Harrison - My nephew (bit the worts for wear) staggers over and slurred " Hey, your George Harrison!!" to which he replied " Yes I am now F**k OFF you drunken T**T" I almost fell of my stool

Met Kathy Staff who plays Nora Batty in Last of the Summer Wine in a hotel in Maderia a couple of years ago. She's such a lovely person.

On hols once I went to Mass at Ampleforth and Frank Muir was in the congregation.
I once narrowly missed Matt Busby when doing a 3 point turn in my driving lesson. You can see why I don't drive. Keep Death off the Roads, the campaign used to say! Think they meant me!

I didn't elaborate on purpose. I wus married to a farmer whose farm is within the boundaries of the Beaufort Hunt. Them wot HRH "doesn't" ride with . Every year the MotFH goes around giving a thankyou pressie to all the "supporters". These are the farmers and landowners who allow them to ride across their fields. I don't think ex-hubby supported them particularly, in fact he had some very rude words for arrogant "horsey" people, he just never stopped them using his land.

Anyhoo, this particular pressie-giving day I happened to be at home when Lord Oaksey arrives with HRH in tow. Hands over crate of wine, says thankyou and goodbye.

The pressies were either a crate of wine or a bottle of scotch. The wine was Leibfraumilch so was usually used either in cooking or for guests who actually like the stuff. The scotch was always a good blended one. Guess which one Janie & ex would have preferred .

Which reminds me, Brian's ex was the housekeeper at Bowood House when Camilla was living there after her divorce. They had the flats next door to each other and talked as neighbours do. Brian and I had to go there on several occasions to pick up his daughter. So I met her and the Countess of Shelburne. Brian knocked over a staddle stone whilst the Countess was watching. She laughed about it and said a groundsman would fix it.

That thing in the papers when they said that the princes had met Camilla at last was a joke. They'd stayed at Bowood several times with their father and got on with Camilla. She's a very nice lady.

I'm pretty good at recognising people and when I pop into the big smoke with LadyWayne, "we" often see famous people - Ricky (or Rickeeeey as he was otherwise know) from Eastenders acting like a prat in Harrods, Phil Spencer walking past us in the street and LadyWayne didn't even see him (I wouldn't mind but she had met with him on a few occasions prior).

Then there was the time when LadyWayne treated me to a night's stay at Le Manoir Aux Quait Saisons for my 30th and Clive Anderson was having dinner with some friends on the table next to us.

I met Darth Vader (David Prowse in the outfit and not James Earl Jones) when I was 7 in Woolworths, got his autograph too!

My favourite was when I was flying back from a meeting in Germany either last year, or the year before and I noticed Ruth from Spooks (Nicola Walker). As the passengers were disembarking I went over to her and asked for her autograph (big fan of the show see), and we chatted all the way back to passport control. One of my colleagues was on the same flight and he thought she was a friend of mine! She was really cool.
