Good grief, always thought it would be tough to go on Desert Island Discs and choose just eight - but one????

If the criterion is "cheer you up", then definitely ELO's Mr Blue Sky - but then someone mentioned Santana and there's Smooth YouTube - Santana ft. Rob Thomas - Smooth (Official MTV) - fantastic song, we always belt that out in the car - love Latin American stuff, I'm the sad girl who cha-cha-chas along to the Odeon "Latin beat" advert in the cinema - and then someone else mentioned Dean Martin and there's Sway YouTube - Sway - start singing that and I can't stop - and then someone else said Shine and I, too, don't usually go for Take That but we sang that all the way through France in the car last year - and then you talked about Zadok the Priest and there's all the classical stuff my mum used to sing - Faure's Requiem YouTube - Kings College Faure Pie Jesus and Agnus Dei and St Matthew Passion YouTube - Johann Sebastian Bach - Matthäus Passion (12) (from about 02.25 - love the weil er hat gesagt, ich bin Gottes Sohn bit and the Ach Golgatha and the Sehet Jesus hat die Hand) and Carmina Burana and the lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem YouTube - Mozart - Requiem - Lacrimosa and Brahms' Requiem (the Denn alles Fleisch es ist wie Gras one) YouTube - Nuclear weapons and Brahm's Requiem (though none of these are particularly jolly to be honest!!) and Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet YouTube - prokofiev - romeo and juliet which isn't even choral but who can resist singing along with the Doop de doop de doop de doop de doop de doop de doop DOOP - and if we're talking cheer you up, then most importantly there's Madness singing Our House YouTube - Madness - Our house which is such a jolly one - and I haven't really even thought about it that hard yet...!!!!! AAARRGGGHHHH

Showiing our age now, LOL - I can remember bopping away madly to that at the RHC (Royal Holloway College) Rugby Club Yuletide Gathering - upmarket event: £4 and all the beer you could drink - people tended to come in overalls and wellies (where I met my husband, as it happens!!). I can still remember everyone stopping, doing the dingalingaling bit at the beginning and then bopping away again. Loved Madness. AND I was in one of their videos for quarter of a second when they filmed Uncle Sam on Putney Embankment outside the office where I used to work. We all stood on the balcony and watched them filming it all afternoon and then they only used about 10 seconds in the final video. Claim to fame eh?!! Bet you're jealous!
