I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom

            • Wellie and Trousers, just to let you know that you may not be able to name your house, believe it or not it depends on your local post office. And a number of other things though 'common usage' here goes a long way.

We live in a very small hamlet (two houses) which has two names, one is the other side of the road and the other our side of the road, where both the houses are. Although we get letters addressed to us at the other side of the road (thanks to France Telecom) we also get our letters addressed to this side of the road also.

              We live at ...........

Les Fromages (it was an old goat farm where they made cheese, the French think it's an English joke tho when we bought it, J said it officially made her the BIG CHEESE in the family) but when we asked about giving the house a name, we were told we couldn't.

              Very French!

                • Tony, you're taking this too seriously? I am allowed to call my new abode anything that I choose, because I cannot possibly have a new blog without a new name for it.....
but thanks for your very well-meant, and hugely appropriate reply, I mean it. Thanks.

                  • What i found most beautiful was how clearly at ease you are with each other.
I can imagine everyone was so nervous.
Great to see the men did the totally nervous thing we do, that is find the telly, put sport on , ice broken !!. Well done guys .
I have noticed on car forum sites i am a member of do have LOCAL MEETS.Maybe we could something similar ????. By that i dont expect us to turn up in a car park in Wolverhampton and compare veg. But surley there is a way around it. Heads together....
Certainly looks like you had a super time, well done.

                    • D'you know, Minty, I was thinking the same thing earlier - there was not ONE of those 'quiet bits' where everyone desperately thinks of something to say.....

Mind you, easy peasy for me as I'd met Wellie and Trousers before (at Malvern last Spring - mind you I did take my friend Jane along then as moral support!) and of course Wellie really has become one of my dearest friends over the course of the last twelve months.

Also you sort of know a bit about peeps from being on the vine - even if it's just what sort of allotment/garden they have.

Holly Cottage itself helps as it really is SO lovely (thanks to Herself - who else can get away with enamel bucket of veg bits for the compost sitting in the conservatory.....AND it still looks good...??) and of course BC is an ice breaker.

Prolly helps that at least three out of the five of us girlies could take part in a 'talk for Britain' competition and fare quite well......

....also helps that we are all such lovely grapes......!

I did say 'at least three', Shirley - if I'd said all five of us there would have been cries of 'oo are you calling gabby.....!?!'

                          Tee hee!

                            • I hope this comes across in the right way - but I wasn't at all nervous, I honestly don't get nervous meeting new people, I thrive on it - hope that doesn't sound too well you know

as for talking for Britain - not me gov, nooo not me

                              • I wasn't nervous about meeting new people until after Brian died. I was then in a different situation. I put off going to other meets from other fora (usually at the last mo). I eventually went to a meet from another forum for Christmas and New Year, expecting support and sympathy and to give the same with fun and laughter as well. Most of the others were absolutely wonderful, but a coven of three witches made my life hell.

I couldn't escape, so just put up with it and thanked god when I could get on my flight home.

The Grape meet at Wellie and Trousers was really lovely. It was so wonderful to meet people who had no other agenda than to meet like-minded people and have good food and a laugh.

And I can definitely talk for Britain if anyone lets me. I found the comment that I had a fund of interesting stories made me feel like the "little old lady" who talks about her past. As I loved listening to my grandmother's stories that isn't a problem.
