The wind is crazy here too, it has blown the plastic garden chairs all around the decking & they landed upside down outside the kitchen window where Rosie (the dog) gave them a right telling off. Her hair was standing on end from nose to tail & she was barking & growling her head off (she very rarely barks normally, think i can count the number of times i've heard her on one hand!), so i opened the kitchen door so she could go & investigate & she was too scared to go near it! She did the same yesterday with a roadworks signs that had a sandbag sat on top of it - aren't dogs strange!

Its probably too strong a wind, or the wrong sort. Its okay though there'll be a power station somewhere providing the 'missing' power.Last edited by smallblueplanet; 31-01-2008, 10:25 AM.To see a world in a grain of sand

I'm on my bike, as usual, gale or not. It's like pedalling a sailboat today! OH was meant to go up in a Chopper today, but thankfully has been grounded - they didn't even attempt a takeoff. All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Just heard an ominous 'crack' from the garden somewhere - can't see any branches down, not going out to look until this subsides a bit. All the wooden chairs are on their sides and theres at least one tarp that looks like it might take off any minute (hope OH tied it down firmly)Growing in the Garden of England

Strong gale early this morning here too which blew my greenhouse (£20 B&Q) flat on it's side with no damage to it. Luckily only the contents of onion sets (placed on the staging) dispersed on the patio floor and rest were just strawberries in window boxes on the floor (all intact). Glad that it happend so that I know this in future. Don't think I'd feel safe with young plants although have tied the greenhouse to a hanging basket bracket.Last edited by veg4681; 31-01-2008, 12:58 PM.Food for Free

Fierce here too. Woke in the night to the sound of a gale and couldn't remember if I'd closed the greenhouse door yesterday! Then remembered I hadn't.
Fortunately it had blown shut - Phew! Glass still intact but 2 plastic chairs in an unseemly heap on the patio.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
