Its lovely, if I hear it playing I have to stop whatever I'm doing in order to listen to it.
Is it the Jeff Buckley version? Very moving for me too...

Otherwise it's Stairway to Heaven because my friends and I (being teenagers) were playing it a lot at the time when my Mum died. It always reminds me of sitting in the New Forest being hugged by friends and crying...there I go again just thinking about it.

And another one with better connotations is Jennifer's Rabbit by Tom Paxton which my Dad used to sing to me when I was little - tears of joy this time

    • Me and Little Andy - Dolly Parton, makes me "think". Mum used to play it all the time.

            • It's got to be Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight for me. It was "Our Tune" up until my partner died 6 years ago from Cancer. If I hear it now I still sob my heart out all the way through.

                • Well, there's bl**dy Robbie Williams, who's managed to write not one song, but two, which make me think of my Nan. Nan's Song, reminds me of her, Angels reminds me of her funeral, which was the day I'd been dreading since I was three and first cottoned on to the idea that old people wouldn't be around forever. (she managed to live until I was 39 though).

Being completely tone deaf and not one for drunken Karaoke nights I haven't sung in public since primary school, but at a friend's party the karaoke was the 'entertainment'. My youngest son feels the same way about it as I do (and is equally tone deaf), but after much pressure we stood up, belted out Aerosmith's 'Don't Want to Miss a Thing' hoping that volume would make up for our tin ears, then we hid in a corner. The fact that we could do that, and he held my hand whilst we did it, is the thing that brings a tear to my eye.... Oh, and I discovered that I quite enjoyed doing it, but would never voluntarily do it again if any other human being was within earshot. Made me realize why aging rock stars with more money than they can ever hope to spend keep touring though. Great fun.

Our eldest daughter was born late on Christmas Eve and after the birth a choir of doctors, who had been touring the hospital, came and sang 'Once in Royal David's City' outside my labour room door.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

                    • For me it would have to be another Ralph McTell penned song, The Hiring Fair.

It has been sung by Fairport Convention however the first time I listened to it was when a friend of a friend played and sang it himself, brought a tear to my eye at the time and now unfortunately it brings a tear of rememberance because the friend who introduced me to the song (he drove me from Southampton to Plymouth to meet the singer and hear the song because he knew I would love it) died suddenly from heart attack two years after the introduction.

I looked on youtube for a link but to be honest none of the versions on youtube do the song any justice, the Fairport Convention version which is on there is for me not quite right, the version from them i like the most is the version on their Gladys Leap album however listening to it the way i did i think i will find it hard to fully fall in love with any other version.
