I never did find what I wanted to do when I grew up! If you get a job away from your computer, we'll miss you!
I leapt at the chance of early retirement. I only get a small work pension - part timer, see - until I hit 60. Still won't be huge. But it keeps me in seeds and fabric. Not enough hours in the day.
However, now I'm doing what I want all day, not what someone is prepared to pay me for. Even if you work part time, (taking a course the rest of the time) make sure it's something you would do even if the DIDN'T pay you. Then if you get a job doing it - well, what a bonus that would be.
Its hard not knowing what job you want to do/really want to do, I wanted to do fashion designs when I was at school but ended up been a nurse cos my mum‘s a nurse. Now would really love to work in something like a garden centre or something similar
Good Luck piskieinboots hope you get to do something you will really njoy
I wanted to be an artist of some description when I left school, and went to college to pursue my "dream".
At the end of my course I started to show my work and was working with one of my tutors in a couple of local exhibitions. It was hard work, with very little, if any financial reward. I was working at the time in a bar and had discovered money and what it meant. I made a decision at that time that art was not for me, and I didn't want a life wondering when and if my next pay would arrive.
I'd love to do something truly creative again, but am confined by the need to earn. Money is often seen and quoted as providing opportunity, but equally it can be a burden.
I'm envious of those people that are able to set out early in life doing something they enjoy, and earning a decent wage at the same time. But I'm not sure I'll ever be "settled". You'll no doubt find the right thing for you piskie, good luck in your quest.
It seems there are quite a few of us here not doing what we'd really like with our lives, but working to pay the bills. I know it's like that for me - I wanted to go into photography when I was at school, or journalism (or photojournalism ) but my dad (a wedding photographer) said I should get a 'proper job' so I took a secretarial course and that was that! I hate being stuck in an office all day but it pays the bills ....
Piskie - it sounds as though you have the opportunity to do something you will truly enjoy so go for it girl! Its never too late and life is short (now where have we heard THAT line before!? ) Take some part-time out to give yourself breathing space to decide what really makes you happy and what you find enjoyable. And good luck!!
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance
Having the same quandries as you Piskie.. going slowly insane (and ever chubbier :O/) sat in front of a computer on a daily basis but not quite sure what next.. just know I want to be up and doing rather than vegatating in front of a screen collecting rsi injuries (2 wrists and 1 elbow so far..) .. I've started a horticulture correspondance course as one possible option as I love the time I spend down on my plot but haven't quite got the courage up to jack in the job I've had for the last decade just yet.. :O/
I have a dream:
a dream that, one day, chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
