What- with all our complaints - no wonder people's eyes glaze over when we talk to them!!! ( I thought it was to do with gardening....and family tree stuff wot did it!)
Cor, we do sound like the grumpy olds don't we?
Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.
I'm probably about to upset Birdie Wife and Flummery, but Xmas is a perfectly legitimate abbreviation of Christmas in written form. However, it is still pronounced as "Christmas" when spoken.
I'm happy with it as a written abbreviation. It's having someone in the position of Lord Mayor of a major (well, Hull thinks it is!) City pronouncing it Exmas in a speech that makes me cringe.
"I prefer rogues to imbeciles as they sometimes take a rest" (Alexander Dumas)
"It is neccessary to have wished for death in order to know how good it is to live" (also Alexandre Dumas)

Sorry, but can someone explain to me how Christmas can be abbreviated as Xmas? If it was Crossmas, or Exmas I could understand, but how does Christ transpose into "X"? I'm genuinely intrigued.

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

Don't, one of my colleagues who sits close by lived in Merka for 12 years. He still says Aluminum. He also uses the elevator, he goes on vacation and shops at somewhere called "the store"?
The Merkins use of the "double would", as in "He would always come home just after it would get dark" Sometimes they do realize that this just sounds wrong so use the "hidden double would" as in "He'd always come......" But you need an intellectual Merkin for that.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
Have just heard a conversation between two teenage girls, concerning an argument about a boyfriend.
"So I'm like........" and "she's like.....",instead of "she said" and "I said".......I'm like she's better off without him,but I didn't say so!
How many are checking their posts carefully for spellings and mispronunciations on this thread?!!
