Congrats HW - would love to see a copy of it (OH is a Civ Eng, but moved away from structural when he decided he didn't like sprayed concrete tunnels halfway through his PhD - so he's now doing traffic!! Doesn't send anyone to sleep but guarantees an argument over every dinner party table.....)
My 5 mins is still paying! About 15 years ago I had a couple of children's hymns published (yes, I'll happily pass you the sick bucket!) Every couple of years I get a royalties cheque for between £40 and £55 depending on sales. They've obviously been in different collections over the years. I used to say I wasn't giving up the day job, but hey, I have! Buys a few seeds though eh?
I missed this post first time round, too busy gabbling I guess - anyway, in the 80's I used to work in the Print Trade as a Production Controller, one of the titles we did the origination on was...........Construction News - it was originated and printed in Cornwall
Well done you!
They still charge for colour seperation on press releases you know!! Even in the digital world. Scandalous!
Want me to send a hard copy of CN so you can reminisce? I've got some back copies.
Just in case anyone's interested, it was published today.
If anyon'es struggling to sleep, feel free to read it:
We make, amongst other things, the little metal bits that are cast into the concrete to allow lifting & fixing. Glamourous eh?
May not be glamorous HW but as a driver who quite regularly had precast slabs weighing 5 tons or more swinging up to 100 feet overhead I can get the importance of the work you do .Well done and keep it up.
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.
Interesting read Wayne, don't put yourself down, & it was very well written! It surprises me that safety isn't at the top of the agenda in all building even though it's supposed to be. O.H. has supplied clips & brackets to places such as hospitals where they don't require 'British Standard' equipment & don't fit sprinkler systems etc. where you would think these things matter. As Beefy says your work's very important when you've got a massive concrete block hovering over your head!
