    Bren In Pots,
YOU have just put into words what I felt six years ago! Because that's how it happened: you get it into your head to start growing veg. You've never done it before, but now 'all of a sudden' you're just 'going to'. It's a kind of attitude of mind?

And all of a sudden, you're asking and learning, asking and learning, cocking it up big-stylie, rescuing the situation with someone's help, and YES! all of a sudden, you're hooked!
That's how it happened for me.....

        Hi there Chris...and welcome!!!

Why not introduce yourself on your own thread and tell us a little bit about your plans ??
We'll be able to help you more about the soil if we can visualize what you're planning!

My OH and I have tried to live a sustainable lifestyle for a number of years and, once the kids left home, refused to replace, among other things, the telly or to buy a computer. However I do read obsessively and had bought every issue of the mag. No 2 son had been living in student accommodation for 3 years, but when he came home he brought with him all the trappings of the 21st century, computer and broadband connection included, at which point he said I could use anything I wanted. After a while I did ask him to find me this site as I was curious, but didn't think I could do it alone. He even did the registration for me which is why bluemoon appears with a lower case b, grrrr....... Now you can't keep me away, I have to have a look at what's happening everyday even if I don't post. My plan was just to use the site to read and learn, but the first thread I read was asking a question which I felt fairly confident I could answer....so I did. No stopping me after that - I can even log on all by myself now!

This is a really friendly site and my posts have been a mixture of giving what advice I could and also asking stupid questions. There are no huge egos here, no-one at any point ever disagrees with you in a manner which is unfriendly, but simply says "Here's what I do, it's different from the answer above, but it works for me".

Also always remember, the only stupid question is one which is never asked.

                      Of course, Chris.

Go to the grapevine home page and look down all the categories to see which bit best matches your subject (eg undercover, recipies etc) then click on the topic. At the top left there is a green 'new thread' button which you click, give the thread a title then type your question in the box.

                      Hope this helps.

Hi and welcome to the vine Chris. To post a question, select 'quick links' then 'mark forums read' then choose which forum you want to post in, then click on the 'new thread' button that appears on the left near the top. Not very clear instructions sorry, but hope you manage it.

                          Hi and welcome Chris.

And Wellie, know I'm late as usual .... but has your friend joined yet? And if not why not? I have had nothing but help, encouragement and good advice since I've been here, made some friends and had a lot of laughs along the way. Like minded people with the same hobby, and all willing to share - what more could anyone ask for?

Do come along and say hi, we'd all love to meet you
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance

Is that in the Mafia "family" kinda sense? I guess there are a few "favours in kind" carried out now and then...
