  • Swap Shop

    Dear GYO Moderators and all

Has ther ever been a swap shop on GYO (bit like the freecycle website), For all garden bits and bobs, seedlings etc?

Just an idea as I'm sure we all have got bits lying around that we could give/ swap within our fellow GYO members?

Certainly for those who live near each other

Does it matter what people swap as long as money doesn't change hands?

Lovely idea but if you don't live near the swappee there's postage to pay, awkward goods to wrap up and post etc.
Wouldn't hurt to try though, you might strike lucky

Never hurts to ask, does it? Here in Lincoln we have our own version of 'Freecycle' - a much chattier, friendly community than the bare wants/offers of FC. For two years now, we've run a seeds/seedlings/plants exchange. It's not so much a swap as 'I've got these - would you like them?' deal but it all seems to even out in the end and I've met some lovely folk through it.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

It's a shame that people keep dissing Freecycle - yes, there are losers, wasters and users on it, but you get them everywhere. I am finding it invaluable for getting rid of stuff I don't need, and occasionally bringing home stuff that I do need.
The Moderators have recently been helpful in banning a couple of oddballs who have been misusing our local FC.
eBay is also worth a punt, for getting rid of stuff (make sure you charge enough postage, or state "local pickup only" and you can find bargain seeds/plants etc (esp.if you use a sniping tool and a bit of cunning)

I was thinking that if people who live locally to each other and dont mind driving they could swap seedlings, pots, plants etc. I'm sure people have lots of seedlings etc left over I know I do.

Whos up for giving it a go?

                        Hi
I am - I always have loads left over...perhaps we could do it like we do the weather thing...and of course Wayne's new map will help!!!

Much better than trapsing to boot fairs to get rid of those extra tomatoes...

Wasn't there something like this started before on one of the boards? I'll have a look back and see what I can find... maybe it was in the General Chitchat board and did NTG bring it up?? Hmmm, I can't quite remember....

Well NSB, I'm thinking you're probably not too far from me and I LOVE swaps! If my windowsill is anything to go by, I'm sure I'll have something to swap with you soon!
