  • Help for a computer mollusc

I am sat on my work computer, and have saved loads of gardening things in my favourites bit.
Is there any way I can save all the faves onto a flashstick and transfer them onto my own computer when I get home in "less than 2 weeks yippee"
All help happily received but please reply in words of one syllable or less, as I dont have access to a 12 year old to translate computer words.

Hi bob, resident IT geek asks if you use internet explorer or another browser?

Hmmm, I truly am a computer mollusc. How do I know the answer to that question?

Start the programme you use to 'go on the internet' and at the end of the text on the blue bar at the top it should say 'microsoft internet explorer' or 'mozilla firefox' or whatever browser you use.

Do you have 'favourites' or 'bookmarks' - if as you've said its favourites, then its Internet Explorer you're using.

No1 son (resident IT geek) says he didn't think of that as he never keeps faves or bookmarks! What a simple way to work it out!

                Lol!

Okay for IE - with the browser open, click the 'Alt' button (bottom left keyboard) - is there a menu opened below the address bar at the top? Go to File, then to import/export then 'next' then 'export favourites'. Highlight the 'Favourites' folder as the one to export (it contains all the other folders). You can 'browse' to where the folder that you want to save to is ie your flash drive and thats it really.

                  Waahaaa Booohoooo I hate computers
SPB, I got to the bit where it says "browse to your folder, ie flash drive etc" and up to there all worked fine.
I have then tried several times to save it to my flash stick but nothing happens. It just goes back to the export box again. Grrrrr. This is why I am a Luddite, its just so complicated

Save it to a folder on your pc's hard drive first and then seperately copy it over to the flash drive?

Thanks all for the help but I am just going to write them all down by hand and then put them all into my computer when I get back home.

Don't be daft bob - have you tried saving to a folder on your pc? I did a run through on my pc 1st to check it works cos I actually use Firefox not IE as a browser.

                        What's not working?

But I am daft though!! Yes I did trying it that way but it just laughed at me. Honestly, a small pair of arms actually appeared, one on each side of the screen, and it held its tummy and gave me a big belly laugh.
Sadly, whilst I am incredibly patient with my children and my dog, with my own inability to do stuff I get frustrated toooo easily. Handwritten they shall be.
Oh, and while I am on the subject, I cant put my house in the grape map either. Pah

Thing is when you get 'lots' of favourites (you've still two weeks to going home), then it'll be a real chore!

2nd time of trying, to save the file/folder to your pc. Did you remove the flash drive 1st and start from the beginning? Did you give the file you were saving a name? Mine's called 'bookmarks'?

I presume you can actually save files from your pc to your flash drive? If its a networked pc sometimes 'they' stop you accessing external drives?

To be honest I think that may be the problem. We are very strictly monitored on what we do on our comps, and whilst GYO hasnt sent any sensors buzzing as yet, I think that the cyber Nazi's have made my computer hate me so much that I cant even save my faves. Have already written down 12, only another 20 odd to go.
