  • Gardening dementia

I've just read an article in the Times about some research done in Australia which predicts that gardening reduces the chance of developing dementia in the over sixties by 36 per cent. Also moderate drinking reduces it by 34 per cent. So if we all keep growing the rhubarb & drinking the rhubarb schnapps we should all be able to remember what we've planted where when we get older!

Now that I can relate too! I never really needed an excuse for a glass of good wine, but now I can provide a scientific fact to anyone who comments!

What great news. Usually the things you enjoy most are bad for you, it's nice to know I can carry on doing two of the things I enjoy most!

Just made up a demi-john of schnapps last week

Delighted to see my rhubarb ready to pick, so can get on with the schnapps.

Great news about drinking wine, but I think the dementia has hit me already judging by some of the naff things I manage to do (normally surrounded by beagle eyed youngsters who always notice) and forget

SueA, I like that... Especially now I'm setting up a home brewery to make wine... what better excuse to kitchen garden and then drink?

Got my CJ Berry books through yesterday (published in Dec 1968...) and just need to get hold of airlocks etc for my barrels

Maybe I could use it as a persuation for my friends to become more interested in gardening?

Rat, are you back from honeymoon already?

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
