I'm 42, but feel 28 inside. This is when I had my first child and stopped thinking of myself as number one.

Piskie, my comment was about football as I fear we will never win it again. Our egg chasing lot may well win theirs again. And I was in Sydney, although not in the stadium, the night we won. And I cried tooBob Leponge

My brother was there and actually in the stadium - he had such a good time that he went back to watch the ashes series the Christmas before last....but that time we'd lost before his plane left Heathrow. Don't know if he cried, but I do know he was in Melbourne and had a white Christmas! This is their summer remember.Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I'm 40 too - seems a lot of us are on here! My children are 19 and 21. I am a student, the last band I saw live was the pogues December 07 (it was great can't wait til christmas!).
I keep getting told I don't look 40 but I feel oldish - the way I dress probably doesn't help me look older as I live in fleeces and jeans and wellies or hiking boots. I look at posher clothes in the shops but always think what's the point when they will be covered in dog hairs, soil, chicken poo etc in no time

Why do so many people get hung up about their age?
Me I'm 37 years old and growing old disgracefully . Five years ago my brother turned 30 and gave himself depression because he was getting old.Why would you do that? I know I'm not the oldest here and maybe not the most qualified on the subject but - its happening to all of us, each and every day we all get one day older , and there's not one thing any of us can do about it , so why try .
Some one has/had a signature strip along the lines of -the aim of life is not to arrive at the end of the journey in perfect condition and worried but to arrive happy and knowing that you enjoyed the trip.
Some times its good to step outside your comfort zone and try something different how else would you know what you like or dislike- try everything once , twice if you like it.There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

I've been told I had a 40 year old head on me since I turned 21; not quite sure exactly what that meant but anyway...When I turned 30 it gave me a great excuse to play loud french cafe songs and read the paper in cafes and be rude to the 'yoof'; and I haven't looked back since. Love being older - now I'm actually 40 and love it. Bring it on.
Spent my actual 40th birthday in New York watching Burlesque theatre, so can't complain.

At sixty I seem to have done so much in my life but very rarely what I wanted to do. I still feel like I did at 18 and am still looking for a career that I really want to do. I'm fit and healthy and I look at other people my age and they seem to have turned into "old people".
No-one seems to want to employ me in any capacity, unskilled labour I'm "over-qualified", within my skill-set I come up against all sorts of reasons, the worst of which was that I didn't have enough experience .
I usually slop around in trousers, boots, T-shirts and sweaters. I do enjoy a chance to "scrub up" occasionally tho'. Maybe I ought to do it more often just "because"."I prefer rogues to imbeciles as they sometimes take a rest" (Alexander Dumas)
