Been on a little lottie shop this morning picked up some good bargains from wollies & aldi...i've got everything i intend growing now
wollies buy1 get 1 free, 100 red baron �2.99 seed packets buy1 get1 free
also aldi fruit collection �1.99 includes blackcurrant ben lomond,raspberry malling jewel, gooseberry careless.. sets of propagator trays �1.99 windowsill greenhouse �1.99 great stuff also many other bargains soil moisture testers.......so am off to the lottie to sown some seeds

could any1 tell me if i need to take off the paperish skin off my onion sets before planting

No, bwfc, you don't need to take the paperish skin off onion sets, but do cover with mesh or something or the birds will pull them out and throw them around! I have gotten some great gardening things from Wilkos as well.

Nope - just plant 'em as they are - just the pointy tip sticking out.

Keep an eye on them, as the birdies have a habit of giving the tops a quick yank.

Yes. I've just discovered half of my autumn sown garlics lying on their sides on top of the soil. Smack on wrist for not checking earlier.

I like to get my onions started in seed trays....by the time they are planted out they have an excellent root structure that resists the best attention from birds.
