  • The gas man cometh.

Following the apalling attempt by British Gas to service us as customers earlier in the week, you may recall that we have another appointment booked today between 8am and 1pm.

I feel like a little wager.

Anyone like to guess what time he'll arrive (we're now 10:15am without sight nor sign).

The person who guesses the nearest time to within 5 minutes will win a packet of boltardy beetroot seeds from me.

    My Guess

considering my luck with BG of late

    I'd guess at Tuesday!

good luck - can't think of a better way to waste a day than waiting for BG to arrive!

I will wager 12:07. If I am furthest away I will send a packet of something French, (neither wine or chocolate, merely seeds). Tis only fair.
Please note I am not specifying what day!!!

You were lucky to get through to them Wayne. We had a letter in early November asking us to contact them as our boiler servicing was due. I rang weekly till after Christmas only to get recorded messages about how busy they were (surely they knew it was going to be winter then?) and asking me to ring again in a week. In between I got 2 reminders that I HADN'T CONTACTED THEM then the usually mild mannered Flummery snapped when a letter came saying that as we hadn't contacted them to arrange servicing we were likely to lose our entitlement to servicing this year. I penned a sever letter detailing all my phone calls, the 2 useless reminders and what I perceived as a threatening letter. I suggested that as it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to contact them, they might like to contact me and I promised they would NOT get a recorded message. Letter back very shortly followed by a humble and ingratiating phone call from customer services who then and there arranged a day and time at my convenience as I'd be so messed about, and a promise to check up on the visit to ensure it all happened as promised.

It's a bummer when you have to have a strop to get what you've already paid in advance for! AND the demand for the next year's payment had arrived - I put it to one side until the man came before I paid it. She also said they would contact me earlier this year to make surte I didn't go over into another year and effectively miss a visit.

So, I hope he comes! My guess is 11.35!

Ah, therein lies the difference - we are yet to be customers (well, not of the Homecare thing anyway). We used to be customers at our old house and we wanted to continue when we moved in here (2 and a half years ago now), so we arranged for the dude to come out and set us up on the new house. He looked at our boiler and condemmed it. We then had a new boiler fitted to the tune of about £2500, and only now thought, 2 and a bit years on, that we'd better get ourselves covered.

          Tick tock, tick tock.
