  • Dam that zip...

Why do the zips always break on the 3 Tier Mini Greenhouse's.

Has anyone seen a replacement cover that uses Velcro , it would be much better that a zip.

If you are the producer of the mini greenhouse and have not thought about using Velcro, well please do, and remember my discount for the surgestion
My plot is on this site!

    Hi Steve(spt)

My zips broke yesterday when I run them to the top they just went on and off. Luckily I got them back on and put a safety pin at the tops to stop going off again. Agree with your velcro idea.

The covers themselves don't last very long. I've had more trouble with the ties to the frame than I have with zips, and my bestest ever one has just got itself a split in the roof!!!!

I have had the same problem since last April, and can't remember who made it [it's not the people in your link]...so if anyone does find them, can I join the queue.

The cover to mine went in england but i bought all the rusty old bits over with me (waste not, want not, mend and make do etc etc )and now just cover it in the horticultural plastic stuff with electrical tape and pegs and things ....seems to work although last year it fell apart with loads of seedlings in it and i had to guess what was what when i picked them all up. Have placed it with its back against the wall (mother******) and so it shouldnt fall down this year.

Those of you with access to Wilko can get replacement 'Gardman' covers for £3.99 - with zips. Velco sounds like a good idea - but if you are going to use velcro, it would have to be a strip all the way down each side, or the wind would catch it.

My mini g/h is against the garage wall, and I've drilled three sets of eyelets into the wall and strapped the g/h down (aroung the cover) with those bungie doo dahs - strong enough to keep the g/h rock steady, and as the bungy things have some give I can zip and unzip (carefully!) with ease.

I too(or rather Jim) have fastened mine to the wall, using eylets and stout cord.I have found that the "doors" have perished over the winter,I think I should have taken the covers off over the winter.
You can get outdoor weight velcro from most Haberdashery shops, not sure how you'ld fix it on though!

My plastic cover has shrunk, so the zips don't go all the way down and sparks from neighbours fire landed on it as well as other things and burnt holes in them!

Funnily enough mine's been fine for about 6 years since I bought it and then on Sunday I couldn't close the zips, they work OK and no rips but the whole thing seems to have shrunk. Very odd, didn't think plastic would shrink and why now after so long?

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I managed to repair my zips by running them back on and stitching the end with kevlar thread. Won't ever run off again now!

I still find though that after a couple of seasons the clear plastic goes brittle and splits, probably due to UV degradation, so I need new ones anyway!

Will the 'Gardman' cover fit those sold at Focus?

I would think so - the covers come in 3 tier (£2.99) and 4 tier (£3.99) sizes.

                              mini green house cover sizes
