  • Looking for some help

I've not posted this before as I'm not sure of the possible infringements of posting rules, but if any moderators feel I've stepped out of line, or this post is inappropriate please feel free to delete this post.

The village I live in, Harlington is quite a small village of around 1000 households and is quite close to the M1 motorway and a mainline train link into London. However, it is still pretty rural and has some stunning areas around it.

For quite some time now there has been discussion/debate regarding a proposed development of a new football stadium for Luton (which is around 8 miles away) Town Football Club, alongside new warehousing and distribution right next to our village (the boundaries of the development would be approximately 100 yards from my house). Recent activity regarding Luton Town FC having gone into administration and subsequently being bought out by a consortium has meant that the focus has moved away from the stadium and development, but things have still been going on in the background.

Yesterday a planning application was submitted for the development (details yet to be made available) and the campaign has stepped up a gear. There is a steering group and campaign network, our local version CaSH (Campaign for Sustainable Harlington) is headed up by Mike Benner who is doing a stirling job running the campaign alongside his day job as the Chief Executive of CaMRA (Campaign For Real Ale for those that don't know).

I am asking for anyone that feels they would like to sign the petition to visit the campaign website:

    CaSH home page

and sign the online petition. We are delivering leaflets locally next week to help keep the message at the forefront of people's minds, everything we can do helps hopefully.

    Thanks for reading.

We have similar issues with an Eco town of 20000 houses being planned for just outside our village.

    Good luck.

Personally, I'd prefer housing, if we had the choice that is. Although, 20,000 compared to the 1000 that we have at the moment would make quite an impact.

Do you have a petition going?

                        And another one.

Just a point Heywayne, I used to be involved with Local government on planning issues some time ago. Petitions are fine but what really carries the weight is individual letters from the locals.

Best of luck. High time someone tried to stop the UK being covered with concrete!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info roitelet, letters have been sent already but I think we're likely to send others now that the application has been made. There's a meeting being held with local councillors at the beginning of April. Fingers crossed.

I think if it comes to it I will likely don my Swampy outfit and climb the nearest tree.

Does put me in a bit of a quandry given that I work in the construction industry...

I've emailed it to friends in Luton [I had the pleasure of working out of a office in the city centre for a few years, so lots of great mates in Luton], they will pass it around the network.

Signed HW - i'm relatively local and hadn't even heard about this!!

Harlington is lovely, it would be completely ruined with a massive stadium and indistrial units. Fingers crossed the planners see sense.
