I signed up last time, still getting the odd email update. Seriously hope this development gets turned down Wayne. There's absolutely no need for a football stadium to be 8 miles away from the town it belongs in, can't see how it's any good for the supporters, or your village!

      Good luck

Memory like a seive me - s'why LadyWayne calls me Dory! Of course, I could/should of checked! Thanks SarzWix, both for reminding me, and for signing up.

The stadium is bad enough, but more worrying is the warehousing distribution complex. Amongst other things the local road networks are woefully inadequate to cater for the increased traffic that a development like this would cause. On occasion, a large truck has taken a wrong turn into the village and chaos has ensued as a result.

A similar thing happened to a village up the M1 from us - Brogborough was swalled up by warehousing and alike - Amazon being it's most famous resident.

        Thanks for the support people.

Signed. Jeannine and I recently had a planning scare on a smaller scale - a developer tried to build 22 apartments on park land opposite our house. It's the grounds of an historic Augustinian priory but that didn't stop them.

What did stop them was lots of good letters from the local residents, and a comment from the highways agency that the road was not good enough to carry more traffic.

I'd concentrate on issues like that - the viability of transport links etc.
              Resistance is fertile

Signed, and here is the link for the petition regarding Leicester's so-called "Eco-Town"
Petition to: urge the Communities and Local Government Department to ensure: (a) a full democratic planning process and consultation with local authorities and neighbouring communities concerning the Eco Town proposal by the Co-operative Group south-

Also, if anyone is interested too, the RSPB has a petition in regards of biofuels, as I do not intend to highjack this thread, if anyone's interested, here's a link.

There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.

                        Heywayne

Just signed the petition. Good luck

One thing to remember with local councillors they belong to a area committee where the final decision is not made. They will stand and spout tripe for a few minutes just to make you think they are with you, vote against the planning application knowing that a development like this will go to Full council Committee where it will probably go through. Councils cannot turn down application because they want to it has to have grounds for it. The Councillors sit back and agree with you because all they are interested in are your votes next time round.

If the developer appeals against the decision and the planning inspector does not agree with the council they will be stung for very expensive costs, this makes all council's wary of refusal.

Good luck - we have similar issues with Bristol council's proposal to bulldoze the Bristol-Bath cyclepath / green corridor to run buses along.

That makes sense, let's build a road for a mode of transport that is usually around 2-3% fully efficient at 100% of the time! There's a bus that runs from the area I work, to the village I live in - using twisty, often narrow country lanes. The bus rarely has more than 3 people on it (including the driver), speeds through the villages (there is one of those that flashes if you're doing more than 30mph) and chucks clouds of smoke from the back of it (it's an old bus). The bus is not appropriate for the roads it uses - it's one of those single decker's, one of the smaller hopandstoppers would be far more suitable as when this bus takes some of the sharper turns it often swings out quite considerably onto the opposite lane - into oncoming traffic. I 'ate buses.

On a slightly related issue, I got in last night and there was a flyer on the doorstep from the local council. It mentioned the proposal for the stadium/warehousing, but also mentioned that there where also suggestions for further housing in and around the area including one development for 250 houses, one for approx 150 and most worrying of all (and I know very little about it at this stage) was the mention of offices et al on the site of the aquatics store smack bang next to the allotments!!!

Needless to say, I will be watching these developments verrrrry closely.

Thanks for all the support thus far people.
