Headfry - could it be that you have identified a possible gap in the publishing market?

Would you be able to progress the production of such a book yourself?

Possibly collaborating with some older allotments holders or neighbours and their wives - the grandparent figures you speak of? I'm sure some of our senior citizens would be delighted to feel of some use and be able to pass green-fingered tips and hints of which their own grandparents told them!

You could trial it via a blog or the like and if enough interest/compliments take forward to possibly publish? Even in the 'small' - perhaps booklet-style to begin with?

I would love to, but lack the confidence sorry, and sadly have very little time. I got the idea one day when I first had my plot, I wanted my Grandpa there to tell me not just how to grow veg but 'the way of things' nature, stars, seasons, the whole lot. I was hungry for knowledge. Same goes for tips on preserving and cooking. It's easy to buy a 'how to grow' book, but they are just that (good though) what I wanted is a feel good book that works, that covers every thing and is full of little tip bits of say old ways/new ways. a book that looks nice, feels nice - is easy to hold and read. goodness how I wish I was clever enough to write it!
