Hi guys,

The editorial team are thinking of running a GYO awards page in the magazine, with the ability for readers to vote online too. We've quickly come up with a few categeories (below - obviously all garden-related) to centre it around but I wondered if you had any ideas?

Best... of the year:

o TV show
o Radio show
o Practical book
o Celebrity
o Seed catalogue
o New fruit/veg variety
o Commercial gardening website
o Mail order gardening company
o Garden centre
o Innovation (to mop anything else – tools etc.)

Please put forward you category ideas.

How about something from the past

Best tried and tested - tips/old wives tales which are actually true and work - from yesteryear? maybe older the better?


Best examples of free resources - eg flower buckets, reusables from sites like freecycle etc, skips?

How about "Campaign" ?
As in; the RSPB are running the 'Don't Put Wildlife in Your Tank' one and there's various 'Save Allotments' campaigns etc. Could vote for which had the most impact/changed your life etc.

Heirloom seeds?

Best recipes using home grown harvest for making preserved pickles, antipasto, jam/conserve, chutney/relish (inclu using tomato, aubergine, onion, sweetcorn, cuke), sauce (chlli, cranberry, mint etc), the premium sort you get in the exclusive food sections (not sold in supermarket) of garden centres.

Any gardening space aids and solutions for the small home garden. Towering pots, pyramid tower, A-frame planter, wall planters etc. Sorry if I have drifted away from what is required....
