  • Booze Stock Up Before Tax Increase?

Anyone thinking of stocking up before the increase, much as I object why we have to be penalised for the binge drinking culture of British youth. We're mostly wine drinkers in this household, hardly much beer or larger or spirits.

Does anyone still buy wines from supermarket? I now get them mostly online.

Funny you should say that, I was only commenting yesterday on how many adverts there are on tv at the moment for drink! Holier than thou Tesco before the budget saying they thought the govt should put up drink prices, next thing the supermarkets are offering 3 for 2 on wines etc.

        *issing Government.

We have started getting wine by the case from an on-line site. We have to be really strict with ourselves and only have a bottle a week with Sunday or Sat dinner, this way it works out ok. Only £3 postage..!!

However....bloody Government sent me my Car Tax reminder last Monday, stating the earliest you can re-new is Friday 15th March, but we had a budget in the week dint we and it went up a fiver...so I've paid even more than stated on the renewal...!!!

Same here, we tend to stick to a bottle of wine as a weekend treat only and getting them online more and more, not from Tesco though, they give you a discount then take it away by supplying you with an expensive alternative (without discount) with a cunning excuse they ran out on your ordered stock .

My DH was saying the same thing that you don't always know how soon the sneaky govt has applied the tax but as you've discovered most likely immediately so have I missed the wine boat?

I spotted an ad in the Mail on Sunday booklets which they do from time to time for various things and got a sample case from Giordano. Lovely Italian wines and food goodies! - I've ordered many times since only had one 'bad boy' amongst the lot - a faulty cork I believe - oooh was it terrible - the only bottle I've emptied into a sink. They also do some very potent 15's amongst the selections! They also have some lovely foody bits and Italian Pizza plates and other ceramics as sets from time to time with their offers. Great prices and seem like very nice people to deal with - they're also very good for replacements if broken/faulty.

Luckily I ordered 60 bottles at £2.99 each plus p&p - which are NOT for my exclusive alcoholic indulgence may I quickly add! - just before the budget announcements.

We stocked up on a few bottles but it hasn't worked out much of a saving as we just opened the last one with lunch . well it has been raining all weekend and we have taken holiday this week to do the lottie but rain has stopped play so would be rude not to .
I'd rather regret the things i've done than regret not doing them at all.
