I also buy and sell a few cars, also strip a few of them, sell the parts on ebay and weigh in the rest.
I do understand it is so hard to press the eject seat from the comfort zone, but, do you know once you have pressed the button and theres no going back it`s such a weight lifted. Minty

Good point Minty. Ericsson being Swedish are actually a very ethical company, and I never like to burn bridges... The team I work with are pretty good and I have known some of them 9 years. 5 weeks should be manageable. Even if the shift rota is crap and I am here working 2 days in 3...

I came home from working at sea to be with bob, we struggled with money to start with but I have a good job now and we couldnt be hapier.
OK we still dont have a kitchen but we have each other.

Travel and the 'high life' is one thing but home and family are much more important.

I have a daughter, unmarried, who works in the oil industry in Kazaksthan earning megga bucks but she realises that it won't be long until she has had enough and she will be able to do what she wants to do not chase round the world all the time.

Good luck whatever you decide. It is hard taking the plunge, but I came to Scotland from Brighton to be with Whigger, and at the same time left the security of a salaried job to become self-employed. I absolutely love it, and the freedom is great! I always wanted to be a writer, and even though I still continue my pet nutrition work for my old employers (just under different terms), I am now having the time and inclination to do other commissions for the veterinary press. I'd love to write fiction, but this is my happy half-way compromise as I write about what I know and there is a market for it.
For what it's worth Madmax, you are a brilliant writer... Have u thought about going into a role where you can be more creative; e.g writing brochures. Also I can see u having a column - people would love to read about your travels!

Hi MM,

I know what you are going through, I was in a similar situation until a year ago bit the bullet quit the job and came home. It is the best thing I ever did.

Although money can now be tight (working for myself now, so no monthly salary just if and when!) You will manage no matter how much or how little you earn. Just being home is more than money can buy.

I downsized from management to tea dolly (via redundancy in the 90s recession) and a year later from tea dolly to Benefit Scrounger (via cancer and disablement). I struggled to try and keep working for several years after my treatment, but had to give up and have never been able to climb back on that greasy pole of employment.

Life is extremely hard on £3,000 a year, but at least I have my allotment , my family, and my man

MM, good luck with whatever you decide, I appreciate the gravity of such a decision is fairly hefty.

LadyWayne works in an environment where people earn telephone number salaries, and I used to be in awe of the lifestyle these people lead. However, hearing some of the stories about the hours these people work, and the isolation from their families etc. I'm not so sure they have so much.

I travel to Germany about once a month, sometimes staying over and I miss LadyWayne during these times. Can't imagine what it'd be like once we (hopefully) have child/children.

You'll make the right decision I'm sure.
