I'm almost tempted to start a "how long have you been growing/gardening" chart/post/thread.

...and before anyone else does it - "I've been growing since I was born, and could probably do with stopping any time soon."
A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/

    BLOG UPDATED! http://haywayne.blogspot.com/2012/01...ar-demand.html 30/01/2012

Practise makes us a little better, it doesn't make us perfect.

    What would Vedder do?

I think you just miss being our MOM, and are trying to be crowned again!

I am in the 26-35 category, and OH in the next one. There are a good few younger people in our site (few couples with smallies, and slightly older with pre-teens kids, that kinda thing), and a few "Dames d'un certain ages" (I love the french way of saying that so nicely!!). But a lot of older men too, most of whom would be of retired ages. Most of the "young wans" (anything under retirement falls into that category) have only started there in the past 2 years or so, but there had been a good few vacant plots before then (there's now 151 at least on the waiting list!! ).

OOh, if you wanted to ask about when I started growing - well when I was bout 2/3 I was "helping" dad in the back garden, had my own patch there and helped on his until I was about 20, started again with a cherry tree in our first garden (approx 26), and then when we moved, I got back into veg again so a few pots in the garden until last summer when I hit it in a big way!

I'm 48 and OH is 50, but my daughter aged 24 has just taken on a plot as has my mum aged 71. We've had a lottie since we were in our early thirties, at at the time we were the youngest and remained so for years, but we've noticed one or two young families taking on plots in the last year or two and on my mum's site there's a 16 year old lad - although the plot's actually in his dad's name as you have to be 18.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Just voted - 57 at the mo and 58 on Sunday. Both fall into the same section so what the ****. Enjoyed gardening for years and years, just wish I had more time for it. Need to win the lottery so I can retire!!

I'm 36, 37 later this year. I think gardening appeals to all age groups. I started in my teens when we got our first house. I was lucky enough to have family members who also shared the same interest. School's are having gardening club's this was how my nine year old got interested in growing veg.

My first purchase if I had a decent lottie win, would be 3acre's, 2 poly tunnels and a new pair of wellies!

Yeah I'm 29 and I get exactly the same grief.

They all come to me when they want some leeks or what not tho.

Heywayne, Brilliant thread by the way. Soonish, we'll be able to put Grapes Sheilas vs. Bruces, and their ages together, AND go: "Oh THAT'S where they are", and WOW! it'll just be like having a big GYO Hug.

I'm 27 and have to admit the major reason why I do not have a lottie is because I think I am too young. Although there a few other factors that are stopping me.

Once 30 has been and gone and I have learnt more then I will consider it again.

I just got my lottie (24 yrs old) and while ive had a couple of stupid comments from workmates (who would rather spend their time down the pub) the majority of people have been totally supportive. At the lotties themselves I'm the youngest person I've met there (and female as well!), but to be honest it's not an issue! Everyone is very friendly indeed and always willing to offer advice + a chat. I guess it depends how you look at things but I've never seen people as an age and have always had friends much younger and much older than myself.

Of course there's no reason not to be into clubbing and drinking and veggie gardening....

                        I manage fairly well....
