Sunday Night Chat

Just had a thought. [Smell of rubber burning ]
I know we have not got a chat room here at the vine but we could have something as good as.
On allotments people are always making do and using the odd things to recycle again. That made me think. What would happen if we all posted on just one thread in General chitchat on a Sunday evening from 7PM onward?
The thread could be wiped by a Mod on Monday ready for the following Sunday. The same thread could be used again and again. The other good thing is if you were late getting to the Sunday chat you could soon get up to speed by reading the past posts. Not knowing history of a conversation or what has been going on has always been a bit of a problem in chat rooms.
What do Grapes think? Would it be workable?
People would have to limit themselves to posts of no more than two lines at a time in the "Quick post box" or conversations might get a little bizarre.

Have you ever visited Habbo Hotel online? A few years ago some friends of mine moved down to London and so we registered with Habbo Hotel and created our own little avatar characters and used to meet up regularly and chat online in the virtual world that is Habbo Hotel. We created our own little rooms and furnished them - it was such a laugh.

I've still got my characters and virtual rooms, but not been there for ages so not sure what it is like now but maybe we could all do something like that too.

Just an idea...but the simple chat room thread is great - I will definitely join in!

As this is really my first forum (and home... ahhh....) I don't know I've quite cottoned onto the idea of the chat room verses a normal thread posting (or is it that the chat room is just really gerenal chat?

Chat is just that... general conversation that rambles and can go anywhere.
Normally a chat room has a window with an ongoing conversation. Some people log in and just watch; others contribute. As the posts mount so the window scrolls onward. You can only read what has been posted while you are logged into the window. All previous posts are lost.
What I am proposing is really an "extreme thread" that grows from 7pm until the last person logs off. All posts would be wiped on Monday morning. The thread could run for many pages so you would have to choose whether you would log on at the first unread post or the last post. Both of these options are available on every thread at the moment.
We won't know if it will work unless we try it out. If it is successful then fantastic. If it won't work then as they say "nothing ventured nothing gained"

As long as it doesn't turn into a chat room proper which would wreck the forum.

It would only take place on Sunday night and be wiped on Monday morning. I would imagine that as conversations take place, pointers would be given to where in other sections of the forum things could be found.
Say for example the chat thread had been up and running during Chelsea, we may have spent Sunday night discussing what we thought of it.
Monday to Saturday the boards would be back to normal.
Sundays would just give us a few hours to chat and shoot the breeze.
Grapes log on at all hours 24/7. so I don't see it wrecking the forum. It would hopefully compliment the forum. People who only log on once a month may make a point of logging on each Sunday to have a natter.
I just wonder what will happen if ten or twenty Grapes get to chatting at one time? If it does not work then at least we tried.
How it will work.
On Sunday log on as normal and go to General chitchat board. Select "Sunday 18/06/06 Chat" and post in the box "Quick Reply" a message of one or two lines. Submit as normal and wait for another person to reply. You may need to hit the refresh button to keep up dating? We will have to work out the quirks as and when we start.
I am sure there will be one or two people there at 7pm to start things off. Other grapes will drop in and some of the first people will log off when they wish. The thread will die a natural death at the end of the session, as I don't see many people wanting to talk for hours on end.

I will try and remember - brain like a sieve at the moment and I find it difficult remembering dates and times...I've had the gasman round to disconnect the fire several times and each time forgotten I've booked him and gone out with the dog...I'm trying to remember he's coming round on Friday morning and have left post it notes everywhere...will do the same for the chit chat session to hopefully remind me to log-in.

It is this Sunday it starts at 7pm. It may work... or it may not.
It's worth a go.
I am sure we will have to iron out a few problems as we go, but I am sure it would be good fun.
Perhaps we should get a drink and nibbles ready, then it will be like meeting up in our own little pub
