How much to charge for...

What would you lovely grapes pay for plants at a car boot sale?

Instead of chucking out ot giving away my spare seedlings, I thought I might pot up the lot and sell the excess. But I have no idea what to charge. So - honest answers please. What would you expect to pay at a carboot for:

1. a 6" high tomato plant
2. a strip of 3 different lettuces in 3" cells
3. 6 marigolds
4. a planter containing a tomato plant, 2 lettuces, some rocket and some basil
5. a brussels seedling well grown in a 3" pot
6. a courgette seedling at the 4-5 leaf stage

To do list: (1) go to car boot sale and have a look around. Never even been to one before!

Hmmmm, off the top o my head;

1. 75p - £1
2. 75p - £1 depending on size & health
3. £1.50
4. £3 - £5 depending on pot & plant sizes
5. 50p
6. 75p - £1

Never been to a car boot (well, not since I was a kid in tow with Mother). My guess would be to charge what you would be willing to pay and see how you go.

Find car boots depressing. First it is traders mobbing your car before you've unloaded then it is jokers saying will you take 10p for that..." streuth, I'm nearly giving away a ..crystal decanter..for a quid NO I WONT TAKE BL**DY 10p"

Sorry, just me... had a bad experience with trying to shift my gran's stuff when I was forced to sell her house ...I hope you do really well but for the amount of grief I would rather give my surplus plants to others or the village fate plant stall. Stick em on a table outside your house with an honesty box.

People go to car boots for a bargain ... you shouldn't expect a fair price for your produce. Sorry.

You also have to pay for your pitch, and work for hours in the rain.

Try it if you like, but I would rather do as Paulottie says and have an honesty box. If your garden gate doesn't have high traffic, put a little ad in the local shop to direct people to you.

I've had good and bad experiences at car boots so now if I go to one, I sit in the car reading the paper and ignore the traders until they go away and I can unload in peace!

I don't go to the big ones anymore, just the ones run by the school, or the local pub has one in the car-park for charity. You get a lot less hassle from traders, although people still haggle!

I won't do the honesty box thing because I have literally no traffic in my street - it's a cul de sac and I live at the closed end! I will probably try selling to friends & colleagues first. I'm not giving away stuff for free any more.
