  • how to reduce pics

Hi everybody, I recently posted a thread and wanted to attatch a pic or two but couldn't due to the file size. Could anyone tell me how to go about reducing the size of my jpeg files.

Just open them in some photo editing software (if you have any) then do whatever you need to do to make the image and file size smaller, it varies from software to software.

Sorry I can't be of much more help.

I use the Photo Resizer for Windows XP from the Power Toys section on the Micrososft page. It is so simple to use, all done through Windows Explorer.

I use paint. Found in the Accessories part of the the Start menu.
Open the file as normal. Then from the top menu select Image and then Stretch and Skew. In the first two boxes change the percentages to something less the 100%. E.G. 50% will be halving the picture size. I always change the number sto the same then the picture stays the same shape, just samller.

I like to try, might not get far, but I like to try.

I recommend Irfanview, it's free and it's very good. There are five top menus. File - Edit - Image - Options - View. Using this programme, open your image, using the 'Image' menu scroll down to Resize/Resample which is Ctrl + R. It then gives an option to resize with a choice of pixels cms or inches. Here's a link for you to download it from Tucows

I copied what you see below from the Irfanview website.

Q: How to reduce saved file size from XX to YY KB?
              A: 1. Open an image.
              2. Go to menu Image->Resize/Resample and reduce the image dimensions in pixels.
              3. Go to menu File->Save as, choose JPG and save as new file (see also JPG save options like: lower JPG quality, uncheck EXIF, etc.).
              4. Look at the file size of the new file. If still too big, repeat the steps, using smaller pixel size and/or lower quality, etc.
              X. For many images, use File->Batch Conversion, Advanced options.

              Hope this works for you.
