Youngest sprout is verging on GCSEs and this home tutoring lark has become very very scary! Anyone out there with ideas [or web links] especially for French and Citizenship? Just putting together next weeks timetable and would love something just that bit different.

Hi Paulab,
You probably already use this site, but if not, as a secondary school teacher I think it's a really useful resource that I recommend to all the kids. BBC - GCSE Bitesize - Homepage

Thanks both - finding bitesize really good for most things - just heard that Keziah's french aural is on 28th April so really panicking now - if all else fails I've told her to nod intelligently, smile sweetly [hard for a 16 year old goth with attitude!] and intersperse the occasional mais oui. Don't think it will get her very far, but hey ho she's doing better with her English.

Hi, no point her nodding, it's all taped, not videoed!
I have just started home tutoring french. Shame you are not nearer!
Make sure she asks for the question to be repeated if she doesn't understand, it buys her thinking time and may well be asked in a different way so she does understand. (pouvez-vous repeter s'il vous plait) (poovay voo repetay sill voo play is how to say it.
And always give an opinion when answering, not just a yes or no, as they generally don't score any points, they are looking for reasons!

My son and daughter said they were/are told the questions beforehand in their respective schools, and they then prepare and practice the answers. Seems a bit contrived to me, I had to do mine with a stranger and no prior knowledge of what she was going to ask me, but it might be worth checking if she gets the chance to prepare in advance.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
Now a little Shrinking Violet.
