keep getting asked this.answered the critics at work & my local by taking in some of my veg for them to taste.they all said the same thing the taste was fantastic.now all i get is any thing ready yet.first person to admit its hard work but you forget about that when you eat the first tom or carrot .not just about growing veg i just like to go to the plot & relax after a hard week at work some place to go & unwind .just hoping for a better summer this year

some peeps dont understand the enjoyment of being outside........i get it, well you could nip to tesco's and buy potatoes or strawberries..........YES i could but at least i know that i aint got no pesticides and it s all healthy. My OH has no idea, he just sees the lottie as hard work, not enjoyment. Nothing better than standing back and having a good look at what you have/can achieved!Dont worry about tomorrow, live for today

I've got a plot buddy now..
but only because he has discovered that tobacco can be grown in this country in a polytunnel!! Fancies his chances at growing his own.
Cheeky bugger had his eye on a bit that I have spent ages digging, weeding etc but was soon disabused of that notion and told to clear his own bit or face the sharp end of my spade.Last edited by kirsty b; 18-04-2008, 09:15 PM.Kirsty b xx

Bob Flowerdew managed to grow tobacco for his wife, he said it was easy but the 'curing' bit took ages. But you don't need to mention that to the OH
As for the lottie, most people I know are really supportive. I'm even growing extra plants for a few friends this year

Nobody here understands why we bother to grow our own (except mother). I can't give away my veg unless it is washed, scraped and plastic-bagged!
Nobody wants to do hard work, effort or exercise anymore ... for most people relaxation means sat on the couch with the remote control or the playstation.
Me, I want to be out there in the mud. I get more pleasure from the growing than the eating really.
I'm the same with clothes ... I prefer trying to sew my own, than going to some awful mall and buying off the peg. My efforts are usually unwearable, but I enjoy the process. All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

We think we have cracked it with our kids.
They are so used to being in the garden now, either growing thier own veg or flowers, that they hardly use thier Nitendo DS'c now, unless they are playing one of thier farming games lol.
Last year I spent most of the Summer in the garden sitting in the shed as I watched the kids do the weeding and other jobs around the garden. They actually love doing it.
And when there is nothing to do in the garden, they insist on being taken out for a walk in our local woods or walking miles through fields.
Hopefully this way of life wil stay with them, then get passed onto thier kids.
