  • Corned Beef tins!

Rant, rave, gnashing of teeth......!!! I thought the old style corned beef tins were hard to get open - have you tried the "new" style?

They now have a key ring type opener (a little bit like on a drinks can) which you bend upwards and forwards, then backwards to pull off one end of the can.

It's a good job I had a tea towel wrapped around the can - I really struggled to pull the end of the can off...................then could I get the corned beef out?

Could I heck! Ended up opening the opposite side of the can with the can opener and pushing the meat through with a fork!

    Progress?????

Has anyone else had this problem or is it just me?

A very hot and bothered dexterdog..............

OH had same problem then I did, but you have pull till it says touch here or a round ring thing on the lid if you know what I mean (hard to explain with out looking at a tin) if you dont it is real hard work. Pity any old folk trying to figure that out. OH was not to happy that I opened it and he couldn't, he was trying to use brute strength where as I read the instructions *she says with a smug little grin*
you are right when it works leave it alone, we have managed years with the little wind up key and lived to tell the tale.

Snap, Bernie, they're flippin awful aren't they?! Managed to get it open, but getting it out?? What a palaver! I've discovered that if you put it in the fridge for a bit before hand it shrinks and comes out a bit easier, but that means being organised... Which I'm not

                    Ps

The reason Ive been using this is because my friends grandma is blind, and her husband, who broke his hip, has had to go into a rehabilitation home until he gets better.

Apparently, the "home help" type person can only "pop in" for, I think, 40 mins a day - taking off the 20 mins travelling time, she only has 20 minutes a day to help my mates gran with cooking her meals - hardly enough time to peel a potato, let alone, cook a meal.

I did do this once before, and my mates gran likes corned beef hash - it's been a pleasure to help (except for the corned dog tins!) - and its nice to know that someone appreciates my cooking!

Down here it's still the old fashioned windey key thingies - but then the sell by date is 1948 and it seems to have been issued to a soldier in 1943!!!
