  • best voice in rock and\or pop

Thought I'd ask cos I'm listening to Captain Beefheart at the mo' and he's got a smashing warm bluesy tone. Who, in your opinion has the best voice (in a non-classically trained way) Also' for me , Jacqui Mcshee(??) from Pentangle hits the spot. Who are your faves?

Ohhh Dave Gilmour from Pink Floyd. I adore 'Wish You Were Here', and Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden totally rocks too!

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

Rufus Wainwright. Also used to love Sandy Denny (RIP) of Strawbs and Fairport Convention.

YouTube - "Hallelujah" by Rufus Wainwright (Irish performance)

          What would Vedder do?

For absolute power (though still in tune!) I'd have to go for Meatloaf. Seen the Meatman 3 times in concert and he was fantastic every time. Wouldn't hesitate to go again.

For the richness and bluesy tone, I'd have to go for David Coverdale, ex-Deep Purple, current Whitesnake and solo singer.

That reminds me, I think I saw in the weekend papers Whitesnake have the first new studio album for umpteen years out soon.
            Veni, Vidi, Velcro.
            I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Van Morrisson, because he can make me cry, feel romantic, happy, bouncy... everything. I also really like Mark Chadwick (The Levellers) for his earthy, sexy sound.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Regina Spektor - god yes. The sexiest accent in the known world - I go weak at the knees.

YouTube - Regina Spektor - Fidelity

And the singer from Portishead, whatever her name is.

Love Paul Weller and Van Morrison but the voice that truely does it for me (although not pop or rock) is Andreas Bocelli.

Not Bocelli but the other two 'specially Paul Weller

How about Sia Furler from Zero 7 - very sexy and Jose Gonzalez also from Zero 7 and the Sony TV advert with the coloured balls rolling down the street.

And last, but by no means least - Nat King Cole, the richest sounding voice of all
