Firstly, it is quite normal to check with the local bobbies to make sure the person is not known to them, secondly unless they are paying tax the minimum wage is or should be sufficiant. thirdly make sure they don't smoke!! fourthly leave a list of what you want doing on what days and you shouldn't have any problems with misunderstandings on either side! And now we know why you say LADY wayne!!!

I just couldnt let anyone clean my home. I am too proud. I love cleaning when I get frustrated as it calms me down. I aint trusting of someone I dont know in my home, looking at my personal things etc,..

I also couldnt let anyone cook for me, too finicky........Just the way I am......BUT

If you know of anyone who wants to come and remove my couch grass and weeds for 7.50 and hour, let me know thanks
Dont worry about tomorrow, live for today

When you talk about paying £10 per hour on the face of it the amount may sound a lot.... you have to remember that technically they are self employed and should be paying tax, NIC contributions, travelling expenses, accountant etc.
£10 per hour then sounds like a very good rate to me

She did turn up and she did clean everywhere (we have quite a tidy house anyway), however the other day I noticed something that I'll ask her to rectify. Our kitchen has a stainless steel oven, hob, splashback and hood and whenever we clean it we "polish" it afterwards - we use this stuff that you apply with one of those microfibre cloth thingies (but you could use baby oil), anyway although the cleaning lady had cleaned it, it was all smeary (not how we'd of left it). Also, we have a shiny worktop and this again was clean, but had smear marks all over it.

It's not that big a kitchen as you can see:

            Are we being too fussy?

NO,YOU are the bill payer,if a work top is smeary then it has to have been done with a wet,not damp cloth and dryed of,therefore posibble germs, ugh,it spoils the look of a room, especially when the sun catches it,it can look worse than it is,however it would be nice if you explained to her the finish YOU would like, when i did cleaning the lady had a cupbourd just with the things i and she wished me to use, people have differing standards of cleaning,it's up to you to educate her to your way,bit by bit.best of luck.

                Heywayne

Your not been fussy. You're just giving her feedback. One area that I don't ask the cleaner to clean is our kitchen, except the floor. I clean up after everymeal so it doesn't need an additional weekly clean. We have a piano that I'm a bit precious about. I request that the cleaner cleans it with no products, just clean water, then drys it off with a clean cloth so it's smear free. We all have our cleaning priorities.

                  Thanks dolly.

When the cleaner left last week, she left a list of cleaning products for us to buy, so I guess us asking for something in return is only fair...

All we seemed to have done since we moved in (about 3 years ago now) is renovate. Pretty much done now though! I think.

hmmm i wouldnt be happy with the list of cleaning products to use in my own home either, are the products even environmentally freindly, are they the higher priced brand, at the end of the day every house is differant surely the cleaner would understand that, i never had a problem with what i was asked to do, at the end of the day they paid me, if a note was left asking me to do somthing extra i would be paid for it, but the cleaning product thing bit orf,

                            and yes loverly kitchen btw

the cheek, giving YOU a list,it's your home and you pay the bill, her intitlement is suggest or advise any product, not tell you get this or that, unless she is alergic to something you have, and that should have been declared at onset of contract, things will no doubt settle down, you try telling the boss at work what aftershave ext to use.
