  • Help! No Toms

    Hi ya,

Could anybody help. I have sown Tomato seeds San Marzino (plum) and Alicante into shallow seed trays with seed compost and vermiculite, on the 9th March. Placed them in the greenhouse and nothing!! Last weekend sown into small pots Tomato seeds Beefsteak and Gardeners Delight, which are just beginning to come up.

What has happened to the seeds in the greenhouse, where did I go wrong?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the first lot of seeds were not warm enough. If you have watered regularly then after a month and a bit they have probably rotted by now. Id probably chuck them and sow some more.

I usually germinate my tomatoes and chillies indoors as I only have an unheated greenhouse. I have a very small heated propagator which sits on my kitchen windowsill and this is where my precious seeds go to germinate. I sow about 12 to a 3 and a half inch pot. Put them in the propagator to germinate, and as soon as they show they can go into the greenhouse or on the windowsill. When they have their first set of true leaves I prick them out into individual pots or cell trays.

Too cold unless you had a heated greenhouse.
