  • Where has Monty gone?

    ....this time?

Around the World is done, dusted, in the can, shelved and the books are on half-price sale with [bookshop of your choice] - but Carol says he is away for three (?) months - where to this time!

Joe S - well now, you all now I love and support him totally and have from the start ....but surely even 'you' Joe dissenters can't pick fault with him tonight!

I thought he was lovely and so were the kids and the mini Joe triangles built by lottie mate - lovely stuff

Missed GW, was cleaning the kitchen so I don't have to do it in the morning. Have not yet caught up on iplayer. His blog looks nice though.

EDIT: have watched it now and found it a really enjoyable programme as usual. Joe's allotment is looking good and I love that the whole family are getting down there too.
Carol's excitement over her pond was infectious, got me thinking of a shady spot on my plot where I could sink a large tub to encourage frogs and the like.
    Get well soon Monty

Good show tonight, miss monty tho. The triangles are taking over the world!
Joe was good tonight, funny from what he was saying you would have thought he had been reading the posts about him here. Im really enjoying the allotment section of GW. Good one Joe!

Piskie, Monty was really ill during and after his 80 gardens tour. He nearly died of peritonitis and is generally suffereing from exhaustion. I think he is "away" recuperating and trying to regain his health.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Yes Mum and I were wondering where Monty has gone. I like his gentle delivery style.

Am glad Joe got his allotment rotivated, makes me feel less guilty about doing mine!

We wondered if he was ill. Something in the way Carole was talking seemed to suggest it, without actually saying so, we thought. Hope he gets better soon.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Think he will be back in time for Gardeners World.

Liked the quick flash to Geoff Hamilton.

Hes not gone, he is in the Mail today urging growers to only grow native plants don't think he will get far with this one as plants are big business. He's idea is nice though. He talks about growing Hawthorn, Dog rose (my favorite) Fox gloves, Primrose and Sage etc I dont think he is too bad if he is taking on the country's growers. Power to his elbow.

Sorry to be controversial but I don't think Monty is in the same league as Geoff Hamilton or Geoffrey Smith - More of an Everton rather than a Man Utd. GW seemed to be going the way of the Chelsea flower show - OK if you've huge area of garden but not much use if you've a modern postage stamp - at least Geoff Hamilton tried to come up with useful ideas for this.

It's OK to say that they are using Berry field No1 compost for this but I can't produce enough to meet my needs with a fair sized garden and and allotment - someone living in a modern housing estate wouldn't have a chance. So please can we have a bit of a reality check - it's like the old Wish you were here holiday program where 14 nights for two people comes to £10k not many folks can afford it!

I think Joe swift is a great improvement now he's doing something down to earth rather than the arty farty stuff - I had to snigger at the reception that his Triangles received I know one or two on our site that still think the earth is flat

And Carol Klein, well I'm warming to her greatly she remind me of me on a saturday night ... only she doesn't wear a dress

And the new girl (darn this old age - can't remember her ... er what was I saying) I think she's still a bit nervous but I'm sure she'll get there ( although she could have used a smaller pot to sow the Echinocerus in I get a bout 20 seeds in a 2" sq pot ant then it fits nicely in the bag with the top sealed - but hey that's why I'm a Guru and she's a tv presenter on a huge salary )

Rant over I've had my first cuppa and I'm off down the greenhouse now

Hear hear! That is my main complaint about GW since Alan left...the whole idea that the presenter has a 'Head Gardener' and then lectures the rest of us...I know AT and Geoff Hamilton probably had staff to help keep up with their big gardens but at least they had the humility to cater for us ordinary mortals!

Must say though that watching last nights programme I had the distinct feeling that Monty was seriously ill - there seemed to be a lot of references to what he had planned to do...as much as I dislike him as a presenter, I do hope he recovers quickly.
