    Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'm sure you'll put me right if not.

I've just started this veg lark and I really don't know what I'm doing! I've subscribed to the mag and this forum in the hope of learning. I find all the available content a bit overwhelming.

I have a very small area. I've been digging up the flowering plants to make way for veg. I work full time so I am a bit limited with what I can do.

I think my biggest problem is planning. I don't know what should be planted when and when I could expect harvest and when ground will be clear for something else.
I have a few things in just now, they are still small and the wee creatures are enjoying the feast so I'm not doing too well and some seeds have just not appeared. I was probably too late with them but it's colder up here. I do grow weeds quite well though!

Anyway, what I'd like to know is if there is anyone out there, with some experience, living in the Fife region of Scotland who would be willing to become an e-mail buddy and help me through the year with what I should be doing when and other general advice.

Please reply if you fit the bill and would be willing to help.

This buddying idea might even be of interest to other newbies out there.

    Thanks
    Angela

I live in Fife - fancy coming over for coffee?

I'm not a very experienced gardener as I just make it up as I go along, move things about, plant things when I like and see how it goes - but I'm doing OK and have got quite a substantial kitchen garden on the go and planted loads of stuff this year that I've never grown before so can't wait for the results.

This forum will help you so much as you get answers to your questions very quickly - it's brilliant in fact. I couldn't do without it and wouldn't have got so far with my garden without the folk on the vine helping me out.

I work from home and so here all the time and be happy for you to pop over and look at my garden for some inspiration, if you like.

Is there anyone else on the vine who lives in Fife - we could start our own coffee mornings!

Hello Ameloderama, I see you are looking for an e-mail buddy. I might have sent you an e-mail but I see on the forum you have elected not to reveal your e-mail address Not sure how that will work Good luck with your garden and hope you find a buddy

Hi Amelodrama, and welcome! As Esky says, it's often a matter of trial and error. For a small space, I would recommend releable staples that will be very productive, like courgettes, tatties, peas/beans, cut-and-come-again salads and tomatoes. Most or all of these can also be grown in containers, which will also help you make the most of your space.

It's really helpful to share your experiences with someone who lives in the same region too, as the growing season up north is very different from those in the south.

I still have troubles with planning, and some things you wanted to grow might fail and other things you end up with loads of, it all adds to the experience. It's worth it, and I'm sure Esky will see you right! Good luck!

I think the buddy idea is great & I don't mind giving anyone the benefit of my vast knowledge after all it'll only be one e-mail
